Default "You don't have permission to access cgi-bin from this server"

Hello everyone.

I am wondering why I am getting this error "You don't have permission to access cgi-bin from this server." I see the Unix permissions on the cgi-bin directory is drwxr-xr-x so why isn't it accessible? Is cgi-bin supposed to be accessible by a browser?

I am trying to install Movable Type and the installation instructions say to put the mt files in the cgi-bin directory and run the installation wizard from there, but I can't access those files from the cgi-bin directory.

Actually, I don't even know, is it possible to install Movable Type on a shared Hostgator account?

Thanks.

Have you followed the instructions here: http://www.movabletype.org/documenta...tructions.html

If so, what are you doing to cause the error to show?

Okay, problem solved, for now.

Yes, I am following the instructions at the link you posted.

The error happens when I try to access the cgi-bin directory or any directory within it from a browser. I figured out after I posted the question that it does access the .cgi files fine directly.

The Movable Type installation instructions said to put all other files except the mt-static directory into cgi-bin, but that included things such as .html files which are not accessible in the cgi-bin directory. The problem was when I was trying to read these in the cgi-bin through the browser.
