Default Xfer of domain name

Hi, I was thinking of joining up with either Hatchling or Baby plan but what I would like to know is can I easily transfer my domain name I brought via Google to use with Blogger and can I easily migrate my Blogger posts to either Wordpress or Joomla?

You can transfer the domain, typically after a certain period, but you don't have to. You just need to change the name servers once you purchase your HG account. The name servers you need to use will be in your HG account welcome email.

Here is some info on migrating from Blogger to WordPress.

Hello striddy,

How is that done, exactly? I'd like to switch to HG. I purchased my domain name through my current host (10+ days ago) and from looking into it today with another host I that I was thinking of transferring to, I gather I cannot transfer it for another 51 days or so. My host used Enom/reseller GotoNames.

How/where do I "change the name servers?"

TIA from total noob.

It'll all be a lot easier to comprehend if you understand that there's a difference between domain registration and domain hosting. While you can't transfer the registrar during that time period, you can definitely change hosting firms, as Striddy said. Somewhere you should have a screen to manage your domain; it lets you enter nameservers, which tell the internet where that domain stores its stuff, as it were. (That step is like filling out a change-of-address form at the post office, so your mail goes to the new address.)

HG provides the appropriate nameservers in a welcome email after you sign up for its hosting.

And while HG is also a domain registrar, and you may decide eventually to transfer the domain's registration, you don't have to--lots of HG hosting customers have domains registered elsewhere.

Gwyneth,

Thanks for your taking my question and time to reply. What I don't know is where I make those changes-- is that screen something here at HG right at the time when one signs up, or in the settings in one's new account AFTER signing up, or do I have to do it by going to the actual registrar my old host used (as mentioned above) and do it myself?

I was looking previously, for example, at BlueHost, and they don't seem to handle that, for free, anyway, as far as I could tell. Maybe I'm mistaken, but it sounded like you, the new account holder, had to go find that registrar and have THEM change it. Maybe that all just pertains to domain names that are real new like mine, which is why I was wondering how HG handles the same scenario. Sorry to be so dense..

Barb

You change the nameservers to the ones supplied in your HG welcome email at your domain registrar.
