I'm trying to install a xeoman guestbook to one of my add on domains (I've added an extra folder called guestbook for it where I uploaded the extracted files and chmod the admin page to 666).
In the admin page I have to give the settings for the database, but I'm not sure what to put where and apparently I didn't do it right Maybe someone can help me out here? I'm new to working with databases...this message I get next to the fields I have to fill in: [!] no database detected [!] if this is the first time you run this script the table holding your guestbook information has to be created. please type your mySQL settings in the fields on the right and click the button UPDATE and then CREATE TABLE below. the button CREATE TABLE should disappear after your table was created successfully. if you are sure you have already done this setup before there might be a problem with your mySQL database connection. please check your settings. [1-4] should have been provided by your webhoster. [5] DO NOT change later on or previous data will be inaccessible to the script. these are the fields and what I put there [1] mySQL host localhost [2] mySQL username marlie63 (my hostgator account username) [3] mySQL password * (my hostgator account password) [4] mySQL database name data (that's what it already said... I have tried several things here, but don't really have a clue, I couldn't find it anywhere in my control panel nor welcome email) [5] mySQL table name gb_xeoman (default, don't know if I have to change this) |

First you have to create a database. To do this login to your cPanel and click "MySQL Databases". Then in the field next to "MySQL Database" fill out the name of your database. It can be whatever you want, like "xeoman". Click the "Create MySQL Database" button. The actual database name will be the one you choose prefixed with your account name, like "marlie63_xeoman".
Now you have to create a user that will have access to that database. Next to the "User Name" field fill out the name of that user. Again, it can be whatever you want, like "xeoadmin". This name will also be prefixed, like "marlie63_xeoadmin". In the field next to Password fill out the password for this user (again, whatever you want). Now, in the Privileges section above, leave "All" selected. In the user dropdown menu choose "marlie63_xeoadmin" and in the database dropdown menu choose "marlie63_xeoman" (these names are the ones you just created ofcourse). Click the Grant Permissions button. That's it. In the installation part of Xeoman use these options (depending on your own choices above): 1. mySQL host localhost 2. mySQL username marlie63_xeoadmin 3. mySQL password <your password> 4. mySQL Database name marlie63_xeoman 5. mySQL table name => the default is OK That should do it. Good luck. Stef. |

Thank you Steph! I'm gonna save this information
I'm sure I'm gonna need it again if I want to install something on my own again!!Just maybe not right now anymore, because in the meantime I've installed a viper guestbook (fantastico rules!!) after I saw that not all their skins looked awful and I'm almost done altering it. Thanks again for the quick reply!
