Hi Everyone -
I just switched over to HostGator.com a month or so back because it my business has been growing significantly and I like what I've seen here. I figured I'd put my primary site up here for review or thoughts: http://www.writerwebs.com/ I've worked in web design for years and ran a small business. I decided to go niche market with Writer Webs, so I only design sites for Authors. All the sites in my portfolio are also hosted through my Reseller account here and I haven't run into any problems - in fact, Edit Points and other PHP work has worked much better on HostGator to my surprise! The largest site I host is rwunlimited.org which generates about 800 visitors a day. Thanks! Brandon WriterWebs.com : Exclusively for Authors |

Nice looking sites. How do your clients feel about you putting your ad on their sites? Is it something agreed on from the outset?

Hi Writer Webs,
Thanks for reviewing my site, I thought I would return the favour. Very nice site, good use of colour and crisp images. I like the random/ rotating portfolio spotlights. Also like the informative copy. In terms of usability, I didn't always know which page I was on. Also I checked with the W3C validator and you have 14 errors on the home page. See http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=ht...om%2Findex.php Other than that great, it looks like you have developed some nice sites. Cheers

Monyamic - Although I spent years going the route of legalese and contracts, with Writer Webs I do most deals by e-mail (handshake-style) agreements. I place the Writer Webs banner on each client site unless they ask specifically to not have it. None have requested that. Part of the reason I think it's not a big deal is because it started out as a symbol of quality - like "Writer Webs signature site" and then just became something I put on all the sites I designed. Since I work on a very specific niche market, it hasn't been an issue at all to my clients and has garnered me a bit of business!
Mark75 - Thanks so much for your input! I do know of the validator issues - my Writer Webs site is generally on the back burner compared to my clients sites, but I made sure it works in Firefox and IE - although I would always like to have 100% validation, I have my doubts if every single thing they find is truly worth being perfect over. *grin* I do agree on the "which page am I on". I'm writing a series of articles in a trade magazine, and I'm going to add a couple new navigation links. When I do that I'll take your advice and come up with a way to coordinate the navigation. Thanks again everyone! Brandon |
