Thumbs up Would you accept this site?

Im thinking of making a site filled with offensive jokes, the worst offending jokes will be sexist and racist in nature. The site will not be intended as a hate site in anyway and the jokes will not just be targetting one group. They will generally be low brow jokes that people generally say among friends and nowhere else!

Im just wondering if hostgator would accept a site like this?

Hi Jambo,

We don't like to get involved with customer content, and in fact only do so when necessary. If the site doesn't generate complaints, and doesn't contain racist content, great. We try to keep an open mind, but we also aren't interested in hosting blatantly racist material, which I think is reasonable.

Most people who visit joke sites know what they're getting, so if I do in fact start receiving complaints, we'd have to look into the issue. Thanks for your question.

You know, keeping every group on earth happy is rather hard thing to do. I mean you will always get complains from people that are yellus or envy or hatefull towards a person. You do investigate these complains if there apropiate and real complains so they wont sturr up a website for nothing.

Might be interrested to know for people maybe add that in your tos about complains where you can make them that you will only act after a investigation that it was a legitimate complained something like that woud be comferting for webmasters and normal for complainers right?

First, that's about as meaningful as saying "we suspend for non-payment only if you don't pay".

Second, the TOS is really what customers must abide by, not HG.

Third, almost all hosting providers--from enormous companies down to resellers with one or two accounts--reserve the right to boot customers for problematic content. The broader and simpler the TOS provision for that, the less potential trouble for the hosting provider. The more a TOS tries to define or become specific about what "problematic" means, the less powerful (for the provider) it becomes.

(Note that there are arguments both ways about that philosophy for TOS provisions covering the mechanics of content delivery--a different issue.)

A good way to say that, is if a specific site seems to get more than a few trivial complaints, it's safe to say the webmaster(s) don't work and play well with others.

You can say that again..
I've got 3 people from one of my competitors looking for any dirt..
But my TOS fixed them up.
