Wordpress Upgrade from Fantastico

The most current version of Wordpress that I upgraded through Fantastico is 2.6.2. The current version is 2.6.5.

I have always upgraded through Fantastico because it backs the installation up and I basically don't need to worry about anything.

Any idea when Fantastico will be up to date?

According to their website the latest version in Fantastico is 2.6.3. It takes them anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to update, from what I have seen.

I use a plugin called Wordpress Automatic Upgrade found here that makes it easy to upgrade when a new release comes out. It also backs up all the files and database so that you can download it to restore in case of problems. I have used it for several months and never had a problem. Several other users here use it as well.

2.6.3 is the latest version that Netenberg has pushed into Fantastico.

If your server is not up to date, you can send an email to support@hostgator.com and they'll get your server updated for you.

My advice is the same as GvilleRick's. Download the Wordpress Automatic Upgrade Plugin and when you login to your wordpress, it will tell you if there is a latest version, with a couple of clicks, it will upgrade your wordpress to the latest version, easy and simple, I have also been using this system for a few months on 100+ wordpress blogs that I have and it has always functioned correctly.

In looking into it, I saw this post on Wordpress saying their themes were hacked.

Any thoughts as to why someone would make that accusation?

It would be best to submit a ticket to support at hostgator.com so that they can check which server you are on and upgrade as necessary.

Just FYI - after 2.7 is out and you update to it, you can update to subsequent versions automatically from within the WordPress dashboard. With 2.7, they have now built this in.

oh really? so it makes the backup plugin obsolete? cool!

Well I like the plugin will still do more, like backup your files and DB and allow you do download them as you upgrade, etc.
