Wordpress permalinks and Apache v1.3?

I have a Wordpress site built on my local environment. It uses a permalink structure of /%category%/%postname%/. I've read some opinions that category permalinks only work in Apache v2+ and others say it will work using less than Apache v2.

I know on my local dev. environment, I could never get the category permalink structure to work properly until I upgraded to Apache v2.

Since HostGator uses the old Apache 1.3 on shared hosting -- Is anyone here sucessfully using category permalinks for a Wordpress website on HostGator? A link to the site would be nice. Thank you.

Surely someone has tried using Wordpress with category permalinks on HostGator? I don't wish to open a HostGator account unless it works properly. Thanks.

Calum, thanks for the reply. Drilling down into your categories, I can't make heads or tails of the method you're using -- but I don't think you're using a category permalink structure.

It would be more like this...

You can look on WP admin page in Option > Permalinks to see what structure you're using. But thanks for responding. I can't believe that HostGator doesn't know the answer to this simple question and post the answer to a prospective customer. I thought that's what these forums were for? Anyway, thanks again.
