Default Wordpress Mu domain mapping plugin by Donncha

The lead developer for the Multi-user version of Wordpress released a plug-in in 2008 that allows multiple domains to be mapped to a single wpmu install. It requires editing Apache files which need the host's assistance. This was a problem with my last host. Here is what Donncha gives at http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/.../installation/

  1. Copy sunrise.php into wp-content/. If there is a sunrise.php there already, you'll just have to merge them as best you can.
  2. Copy domain_mapping.php into wp-content/mu-plugins/.
  3. Edit wp-config.php and uncomment the SUNRISE definition line: define( 'SUNRISE', 'on' );
  4. As a "site admin", visit Manage->Domain Mapping to create the domain mapping database table and set the server IP address.
  5. Make sure the default Apache virtual host points at your WordPress MU site so it will handle unknown domains correctly. (Need info on cpanel, etc. How do you get them to respond to any domain?)
HTML specificallySpecifically, we need to change AllowOverride None to AllowOverride FileInfo Options in the <Directory> directive, and add ServerAlias *.mydomain.com to the virtual host file.

Would this present any issues for a VPS account? Cpanel? hostgator.com?

Does anyone have any experience with this install yet?

Thanks
cmc

Send an email to sales at hostgator dot com asking your question.

Hostgator don't offer VPS.

if you're using a VPS or any server where you can edit the config files you should be alright. I know if you have a dedicated or VPS server you can do it, im not sure if you can edit those files on a reseller account or not.

seovb, your post has been reported for a hidden image in the text you quote. I believe you have been warned before.
