All,
I've moved a working Wordpress 3.01 install from HG Shared to HG VPS. Since the move, I can no longer install or update plug-ins from the wp-admin panel. The plug-in panel just stays installing.... and quits. I've found other users with the same issues, and they suggest modifying the .htaccess file, and it works for them. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to work for me. Additionally, my Permalinks page in the admin panel renders as a blank page. Obviously - I have something screwed up with permissions on WHS, or something not installed / configured correctly via WHS. Does anyone have those two features working on a Linux VPS here at HG and can maybe help me out? I have to thank Tech Support for their help - but they weren't able to locate any issues with my VPS or settings.. thanks |

I can assure you that wordpress works 100% on HG VPS.
so, let's try: folder/file permissions - 644/755 ? or: did you move the domain also (is absolute path's etc. exactly the same? - and are there anything in the DB about the server path that could be wrong )..... or: reset permalink structure (empty .htaccess and change in wordpress backend settings) ? hmmm. I'm running out of things to advise you, here :-( Last edited by weserver; 10-11-2010 at 12:02 AM. |

All files are 644, all Folders are 755
And to double check - I used one domain as a transfer from Shared to VPS, and then I also setup a new domain with a brand new install of WP, and I'm seeing the same issue. .htaccess is empty. |

I run Wordpress 3.0.1 flawlessly on a Level 4 VPS. But then I manually install plugins, and the permalinks seem to work fine. Though I do remember running into a problem a while back where the permalinks page was messed up, and I cannot for the life of me remember what I did to fix it.. Sorry.
For the plugins, I believe that Wordpress installs plugins via FTP, so you'll need to make sure that the FTP settings are correct. I would suggest actually getting help on the wordpress.org forums. As this seems to be more like a Wordpress problem than a VPS problem. Oh, just a thought, by chance, is the directory in which wordpress resided on the shared server different from the one on the VPS?
