WordPress 3.1 Released

WordPress 3.1 has been released :

Remember that when upgrading any script it's important to make sure you backup both the database and the actual public_html files just in case something goes wrong during the upgrade (or if some of your plugins don't yet work properly with 3.1).

The WordPress Development Blog in my site shows it is available, but the automatic update does not pick up the new release yet. I like to use the built-in automatic update ability in WordPress to update my site because it is sooooo easy and painless.

Be aware that Wordpress v3.1 appears to have some serious "infinite loop" problems when installed on a Windows/IIS platform. See this WP forums thread. And this one.

Pending a proper fix from Wordpress, this Disable Canonical Redirects plugin provides a temporary workaround.

Those glad for this latest release must not run WP sites, there's been probably 5 or more leases since 3.1 was released last year. Currently 3.31
You should be checking for updates at least weekly.

If you look at the dates of the posts you'll see that all of the first group were in March last year followed by a spam post in April and then nothing for nearly a year suddenly followed by two more posts. I assume that it is these last two posts you are referring to - the earlier ones were made within days of the release.
