Unhappy Why is it taking so long?

I just ordered hosting via Paypal, usually this stuff is instant and it's going on 20-30 minutes now so I'm just wondering how long it takes before I receive my hosting info?

Also, I can't post in the support forums for some reason which is why this is here.

20 or 30 mins .... quite a long time isn't it.

You can't post in the forums as your account isn't activated. There is a sticky post explaining this right where you posted.... all the info was there right in front of you.

And when it comes to your hosting info, verifying your account may take a different amount of time depending upon where you're coming from, how you're paying, and so on. There's lots of fraud in this business, so HG has to take some precautions.

I was up and running within an hour earlier this week. I did receive a phone call from HG verifying that I'd signed up and confirming my domain name, plan selection, etc.

This was not in any way a sales or pressure-to-upgrade call, just confirmation which I took as a good security practice.

Full activation of my account on the forum took something less than a day.

Good question, I believe HostGator manually reviews it's orders to prevent fraud. I just a response from them regarding the Enom "Reseller Account"

Hello,

Before we upgrade we want to let you know the default account that we set you up with through eNom is a 'retail' account. Most of our resellers choose this option because the only advantage of having a 'domain reseller' account would be that you can use eNom's automated registration scripts/API.

The downside of a domain reseller account as opposed to retail, is that there is a $100 deposit required with a 3% convenience fee if you wish to pay by credit card or PayPal. In addition by having the API setup to do automatic domain purchases you place yourself at risk for enormous amounts of fraudulent domain purchases, and unlike other things, there are no refunds on domain names through eNom or any other registrar.

At HostGator we choose to do every domain registration manually, and therefore highly suggest you do the same and forgo the automation. Once a retail account is upgraded to a domain reseller account it cannot be downgraded back to a retail account.

Yes, 30 minutes in these days is like 2-3 days 10 years ago... I remember those prehistoric times actually. Am I ?

Hello!

HostGator takes privacy and security very seriously, and we do screen our orders for fraud to protect our customer's accounts. While this process generally takes less than time than you've discussed, we do receive a large number of orders and the review process can sometimes take a little longer.

If you've found this is the case, please feel free to contact us via phone or live chat and we'd be happy to expedite the process for you so you can gain full access to your account sooner.
