Hey,

You're site (http://www.web-designstudio.co.uk/) took 5 seconds to load for me, i'm also located in the uk and also with Virgin Media not to mention only on a 4mb package apposed to 20.

Regards, Steve Xx

Edit: 4MB not 4GB I wish...

Giving Hell usually produces nothing but frustration. It might be better to assemble the list of users and all put in polite requests to solve the issue?

Isn't everyone that is having the trouble on the 20mb connection? This may be the key to let them know also!

They're all different connection plans but all are DSL/Cable.

Also I notice there are a few sites I go to, which are hosted on hostgator, which are nowhere near as slow as my own site. paragama.com is on site I visit and it loads just fine, and, is hosted on hostgator

So it seems the trouble lies on the 20MB connection of Virgin.

I am on 8Mb Virgin Media Connetion.

To verify some of my points:

The site was slow when I visited it at 6pm
I am not on 20Mb connection
Other sites load fast
It is not a proxy
I can access RapidShare fine
I just checked at 10am and it took about 10 seconds to load
My HostGator websites all load almost instantly after clearing cache at all times

Same with mine, times out alot.

The connection has timed out
The server at www.photosbytom.com is taking too long to respond.

Seems like every other time I attempt to refresh it, and or traverse a page. It is making it difficult to get my site up and running and I must admit I submitted a ticket for a "user error" :O

too me about 5 tries to post as the forums are going down as well...

I live in the Belfast - UK.

20mb Virgin connection.
Load speeds r fine.

NTL still uses proxies.
I've had trouble access certain sites usually gets fixed.

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d...cache.html#ntl

Quote:
The transparent web caches

Your ISP's network might intercept all attempts you make to connect to the web (by means of the HTTP protocol on TCP port 80), and route your request through a transparent web proxy cache, technically known as an interception proxy. NTLworld used Inktomi Traffic Servers, but is now introducing NetApp NetCache appliances. Your ISP does this in order to reduce the traffic on their backbone, and to reduce the traffic they exchange with other operators' networks. If a proxy cache works well, it can also improve performance for the customer, by supplying locally cached copies of web pages and graphics much more quickly than by fetching them from the remote original web server.
However, when the proxy web cache is overloaded, it can make your web browsing appear slower than the nominal speed of your cable modem. For this reason, you should not rely on HTTP download speeds as evidence of the practical speed of your cable modem.
According to reports, Blueyonder no longer enforce transparent web proxies (in some regions?), but permit their users to configure Blueyonder's web proxies explicitly if they wish.

What I am experiencing is not web latency, but is just slow/no response at night.

Here is an error message I got tonight:

You guys need to start running traceroute on these slow sites so you can figure out where the trouble is. If you don't know what's broke you can't fix it.

Winders: Start>Run> "cmd" "tracert domain.com or 1.2.3.4"
linux: traceroute -vI domain.com or 1.2.3.4

Example: you will see in hop 12 that ae-24-56.car4.Dallas1.Level3.net has dropped 1 packet. This router has been struggling all morning, 33% loss is the best it has done :-) If you guys with Virgin get together run this over a period of time and compare notes you will find the problem. Then you will have evidence that you can show your ISP, if it's even there problem, could be a router on another network that is slowing everyone down.
Code:
scott@scott-desktop:~$ traceroute -vI web-designstudio.co.uk

I would also reccomend sending the results of tracerts showing problems to both HG and your ISP. These kind of troubles need to be reported to both ends. As for HG tickets, you may want to elevate it to a higher than standard level as HG's first line of ticket responses may be unable to offer an useful assistance with backbone problems.

Thumbs down Re: Why so slow after 5pm

Hello,

I am on 20mb Cable from Virgin Media as well, I connect direct to ethernet, I am getting very slow download speeds on the Sync Films.com server which is on the shared swamp package, slow rsponse time loading pages.

VirginMedia, keep blaming it on a outage in the area and network issues, I am in Nw5 area, so connecting via the "Camden" network router.

They keep saying the network and loading other sites are fine and blame Hostgator, but look at my tracert from my VirginMedia connecton from my pc to HG where Sync Films.com is hosted. HG also conformed the packet loss is from the 7th hop and it is all inside of Blueyonders/Virgin Media network.
