Default Why so slow after 5pm

Don't ask me the name of my servers i don't know all i know is that it is ns 123 and 124 and ns 319 and 320.

I am a web designer and i am constantly working on sites over these servers. Now between 7am and 5pm UK time the connection to these sites are fine as i am on 20mb broadband connection, but as soon as it approaches 5pm and after that, it can take up to 1 minute for a page to load, I know that it is NOT my connection as all other sites around the world connect just fine after 5pm it is only sites on hostgator.

My question is WHY???? have you put a limit on the servers or what?? as this is really starting to affect my work as i tend to work up to 8-9pm and what i do between 5pm and 9pm i could normally do in an hour or two max.

Hostgator does not impose these type of limits. There are many factors that could cause the slow down starting at your isp, or anything in between. If you post an url for your site, others could verify if it is a server issue and help you find your server name etc.

one of my sites is http://www.web-designstudio.co.uk/ it is now 6pm and it takes around 30-40 seconds to load where as at 3pm it took 2-3 seconds to load. This does not just effect my browser but also ftp as well.

Google loads up in 1 second and the BBC and CNN web sites load in 1-2 seconds

Virgin formally telewest it just seems odd that all other sites load as fast as they do through the day apart from the ones on hostgator

Does HG's site load fast for you? and www.theplanet.com?

Can you post some ping&traceroute results?

So far it is loading great for me and tracerts look really nice to accord and your site Also a speed report shows it should load fast as the page is small

Now as I was typing this message I loaded in a clear IE window and it took @ 18 seconds. I will keep an eye on it and report back...

thanks for your link, your site took just as long to load asmine after 5pm so it must be my isp that is slowing down access to hostgator sites.

just sent a ping to my web design site it took 186ms as apposed to google which took 21ms

I am also on the exact same ISP as you but with an 8mb connection.

HostGator forums and main site loads fine and fast for me, so do my website but yours took 30 seconds as you said. I dunno what the problem is, just thought it might help

Are you using the Global Crossing network in any of the hops to the server? They seem to have more problems than anyone. Always a useful tool for diagnosing basic internet connectivity :

It is one of the major backbones the internet uses to communicate. There is nothing you could do except change ISP if your route shows consistant trouble A tracert would show the paths between your computer and your website.

coldclimber, if you completely power down, including computer(s), broadband thingie (router, "modem", whatever) at 5 or 6 p.m., do you still have the same slow loading upon starting up again?

(For this test, take both a timed load and tracert immediately before shutting down, then power off completely, and take a timed load and tracert immediately after reboot.)

You know virgin has introduced a fair usage policy dont you? Dont quote me on this but i think.. if you download more than 350mb between 5pm and 12am they will half your connection speed.

Also dont virgin still use proxies? I wonder if the problem lies there?

Yes apinner you are right.

But if he is on a 20mb connection it wont make a difference and this happens to me aswell I haven't downloaded much.

No virgin do not still use proxies, they dumped them a few years ago.

Ok after reboot nothing has changed and today i received my first complaint from a customer about how slow their site is on an evening. I don't know how to resolve this but i might have to end up moving all 100 sites from 3 accounts off hostgator. which i really don't want to do but unless i can find the cause i will have no choice.

So sorry to hear of your troubles and understand your frustration. Unfortunately it loads fine from other parts and isp's. Your tracert shows the trouble and you should be able to get pushy with your ISP to resolve the issue. Anyway good luck.

I'm having the exact same issue with my sites nerdverse.com and I am also on virgin media and also using their 20mb service. I thought this might be the case when my friends from the states and from other ISP's were loading the site fine.

=(

Well at least 3 people now on the same network, definately need to join together and confront your ISP. Hard to argue when multiple users come together

My friends on the same ISP have the same problem. It might be that every Virgin Media user will have this problem. I'm going to give them hell for it though... this is the first big problem I've had with this ISP since I got it as "Blueyonder" about 6 years ago almost.
