Question Why should I come to HostGator?

Let get me right to the point: I'm about to decide between BlueHost and HostGator.

I see BlueHost uses their own datacenter and have CPU limit set to 7% however they claim to have one 8 core processor.

On the other hand, HostGator uses ThePlanet and clains to have one 2,16 Ghz processor and 25% of CPU limitation.

Could you tell me more why should I go to HostGator instead of BlueHost?

Which one (HostGator or BlueHost) will be able to handle my high traffic websites better? And why will it handle better?

Could you tell more about the advanteges of being at the HG machine (at ThePlanet) instead of being at the BlueHost machine at their own datacenter?

I want to know everything about the tech specs that (maybe) makes HG my better choice!

Hope the admins and the other users may be able to help me!

This is from our Support page:

Why buy with HostGator?
At HostGator we are proud to be the best.
That is why we offer technical support at all hours of every day.
We are always available through phone, email and live chat.
We are never out-sourced. All chat and phone support is in Houston, Texas.
We also offer easy-to-use sitebuilders and professional flash templates.

Can you guarantee my hosting will work?
What we can guarantee is 99.9% server uptime and a 45 day trial with your money-back if our hosting does not meet your needs. (Money-back guarantee is not given to existing customers or Dedicated server purchases.)

Still not sure ...?
We also offer a coupon for new customers here. This will let you try our Baby hosting plan for one penny. That is how sure we are that you will love us! (The coupon takes $9.94 off any purchase; this is a one-time coupon.)

Also, our shared servers are Dual-Quad cores (Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5520 @ 2.27GHz, 16 total cores running with an 8M Cache).

We run Dual Raid Arrays (Raid5 for OS and RAID10 for Customer Data). Our shared servers are beasts, and it takes alot to bring one down.

I'm sure there will be some more people that will chime in, as I don't want to 'toot' our own horn

I used to be with Bluehost but jumped ship, in large part because of BH's unsavory history of suppressing left-of-center or LGBT-friendly websites and websites that feature people wearing anything more revealing than Mormon underwear, while allowing the most virulent of right-wing hate sites to flourish.

On top of that, I used to be a moderator on their forums, but they started sending in ringers, BH employees masquerading as users. Bush league, to say the least.

The happy surprise was that my sites come up much more quickly on HG. No complaints here.

Is this better than the 8 core BlueHost offers? I'm sorry, but they didn't gave me too much details. Also how much RAM do you offer?

I read from some admins here at the forum that the VPS are not faster than the shared and can handle the same amount of visitors the shared can.

However I saw at the VPS details page that the first level starts with 0.56Ghz thats a little bit more than the 15% of total CPU at the shared, am I right?

So it should be able to handle a little bit more, right? So, can someone explain why we can read at the Support page that the VPS have the same capacity of the shared?

Shared, reseller, and VPS all handle the same amount of traffic. My best recommendation is to upgrade to a dedicated server, or a more powerful dedicated server.

I'm asking that becouse when I asked about the advantages of host at HG and not at the BlueHost, the sales department said that here I could upgrade to another plan if the shared could not handle my websites.

But if the shared and the VPS can handle the same amount of visitors, so theres no reason to upgrade to a VPS here at HG.

Also I would like to know: FastCGI can not be enabled only using cPanel? Do I have to edit my .httacess file? Couse at BlueHost I can enable that with just one click.

Please, I would love to hear more about from the staff and the users. Keep posting, please.

Thank you very much.

Our newer servers have 8 cores, with two threads per core, so essentially 16 cores, this would be twice what bluehost offers.

If memory serves our shared servers are at 24GB of ram at the moment.

I think the main idea here is that when you consider how much hardware your specific account is using, it can match up with the total hardware in the VPS environment, however the CPU speeds on the VPS containers are not as fast as the one on shared, and therefore not as powerful.

Shared servers have a limit as to what amount of traffic one account can have. This depends on the level of traffic, the optimization of the scripts, and ultimately how it's affecting the rest of the server. We do not limit the amount of traffic your site can have, as long as your site isn't affecting the other users in the shared environment. This is one of the advantages to a VPS container or dedicated server. If your sites scripts are not optimized enough or your traffic is too high for a shared environment, there is another environment for you to host out of.

You can do this through the .htaccess file.

I hope this is helpful.
