Question Why is this forum so full of questions?

Did I miss something? The description of this forum, as I understand it, is that it is intended for posting suggestions for improvements, additional services, changes, etc., to HostGator. Instead, it has many questions not related to that at all, including the sticky, which itself is unrelated to the purpose of the forum.

It wasn't my original intention, but maybe I should suggest that more emphasis should be placed on posting to the correct forum (unless, of course, I am the one who made the mistake and anything goes on this forum).

It's been suggested before.

Given that people without full forum access have limited options, I'd love to know why they'd choose "suggestions" over "pre-sales questions" to ask....questions.

I would say that they either can't or don't read accurately, and before condemning them, I have to admit to my own mistake a couple of hours ago.

I was writing a feedback, and the captcha (? sp) looked like 6space-4space+2, so I entered it that way, and it was refused. I tried it without the spaces, again refused, and I was about to give up when I noticed that above the reply box it asked for the result of the calculation, which I entered, and off the message went. I guess I live in a glass house.

Quite true, but amki was referring to this category (or subforum), not the entire forum. Like others, she wonders why people would post questions in a category labeled "suggestions" instead of either in "pre-sales questions" or one of the 11 forum categories granted only to people who have signed up for accounts and thus have full forum access.

Hi Gwyneth,

I suspect iamtheweb is just a spammer, check out the Hostgator smilie in each of the 5 posts they have made, they have stolen it and it in fact links back to there web site.

I have reported this to Hostgator.

Take care, Keith

Good work, Keith, I just complained too...it wasn't quite as creative as putting a hidden image/link in quoted text, but it was getting there.

You two are still way ahead of me, I see, Gwyneth and Keith. I never would have caught that, but I'm glad you did and took action.

My only reaction was that the person has a decided neuron deficit and not worth responding to. I only put in an appearance so I would continue to be notified of postings. <G>

I wonder if it's just a coincidence that both used the same Gator smiley, though one actually downloaded it, and both popped up here at the same time?

Hey! Those of us with decided neuron deficits are people too!

Spammers, however, I wonder about. I think they may be some kind of alien virus.

Curious as to why you think I am a spammer?

It pains me to respond to this, but here goes...

You and iamtheweb have similar join dates; same number of posts (until he was banned); hidden links (which you are unable or unwilling to remove) which take forum members to apmebf.com, ads.revsci.net, emjcd.com, and ad.yieldmanager.com; and your posts - like those of iamtheweb - are generally specious "Thank-you" messages to others for their posts.

If I have misinterpreted the evidence, and you are NOT just trying to generate hits to your own sites, I apologize.

We might have similar join dates, but that doesn't really tie me to him as people join the forums all the time.

I don't have ANY hidden links or links. I have never posted any links to any other websites.

I say 'thank you' because I have had problems in which I was unable to find prior to joining (finding the link on HG's home page) this forum which they have helped me out tremendously. Calling or using live help doesn't really help me solve the problem normally.

I have a gator in my signature playing guitar (which is a huge passion to me) and a message that says, 'Hostgator > *' because of all the hosting companies I have used, HG has been the best, bare none.

I don't mean any harm at all, as spammers are extremely annoying (for established members) but in the same sense they can be overlooked (for new members like myself).

I just want to clear things up as I am not in any way, shape or form a spammer but a HG fan.

Except for the "Src=http://www.redactedavxf.redacted/img27.jpg" in your current signature, which is either a hidden image or a mysterious off-site image of an asterisk. When entered into a browser, it redirects to HG, so it looks as if you're running some affiliate cookie-planter.

Your signature has a hidden image which is a method used by forum spammers. Delete your signature, save, then recreate it. Don't copy and paste anything, just type what you want.

If you don't change it, the forum admins will ban your account very quickly.

Yeah, you do. If you look at the source code and search for Host Gator the link shows for a "not so family friendly" site.

Then you'd better find out who is logging in as you and implanting things in your signature.

I expected this statement of innocence to be accompanied by a just-cleaned signature, but unbelievably it hasn't/hadn't been changed yet...another one for the lore.

If afaikIwin = As Far As I Know I Win, then perhaps it should now be afaikILose or afaikIBeenBusted.

I'm curious as to what benefit you get with a hidden image...Can someone explain this to me please?

Yeah, the url with the .jpg redirects here, but take away the image file, and you get quite
the eyeful.

Yeah... I don't think it has anything to do with affiliates.

Discussed in this thread:

Hidden images: more than annoying
