I've heard great things about HostGator and have been considering switching my website and the websites of several friends and family members from 1and1.com to a HostGator Reseller account. While I'm very familiar with shared hosting, reseller hosting is new to me. Here are my questions:
1. How seamless is the process of moving? Moving individual html sites is easy, but I also have several WordPress databases/accounts, a PHP forum and several email accounts at 1and1. It seems overwhelming to move them all and change all the settings, etc. I read that HostGator Support handles some (all?) of this, but I'm not sure exactly what's included. 2. My friends currently pay 1and1 for their accounts by credit card. I have a standard PayPal account. Can I use have them pay me for their HostGator subscriptions via PayPal with credit cards using the free software you offer or would I need to upgrade my PayPal account? 3. I understand that it would be best to give each of my friends their own cpanel where they can log in and set up their sites and domains. Would it also be best to separate my own domains out to separate accounts? 4. Am I right that I can set up multiple domains and sites under one cpanel account just like you do with shared hosting? I look forward to your answers!

Hello: I look at my reseller acct like a large apartment building. I own the building and I "rent" out individual apartments or space. With a reseller acct you have a master WHM account where you set up the individual accts and allocate how much space and bandwidth each client will have. Then each client can (if you want) have their own cpanel access. I'm not sure, but I don't believe 1and1 uses cpanel, so this may be an issue with Hostgator doing the transfer of accounts for you. But, you can always FTP into your 1and1 account and download all the files and folders yourself and then upload them to the new HG account. In the case of the Word Press accts you will need the data bases also. Sorry, I don't know about the payment part of you question, I invoice all of my clients individually on a yearly basis Hope this helps . I have been very happy here at HG and I also have domain names and a couple of sites at 1and1 and their fault with me is their support.

1. If your current host has phpMyAdmin, backing up your databases is straight forward. Likewise, it's relatively straight forward to get those databases working here.
3. It is generally better to do so. 4. Yes
