A text editor is all the software you will need.

Yes, you need to use html to customise your .tpl files.

Default Re: WHMCS Basic To Advanced Setup & How-To's

I have installed WHMCS and it seems to be working fine. I am in the process of customising the web site and wondered if it was possible to add options or a drop down box on my homepage that lets the customer choose the length of contract and so the price (i.e. longer term cheaper price) So say the customer chooses a 2 year option and clicks some kind of order button this information is transmitted to WHMCS with the correct price and term etc...

I know this option is available inside WHMCS but wondered if the options could be moved out onto the homepage???

Thanks

Hi Striddy,

You are probably getting tired of me already, but I do have a question about this.

I followed the instructions on the video tutorial - installing WHMCS and the install bombed.
I deleted and then reinstalled without moving the 3 folders (figured I would do it later) now I'm up and running fine.

....But searching this thread for an answer to a different question I saw your post above. I had already set the permissions to 777 - should I go back and change them to something else, or just leave them alone?

Also of relevance to this thread, I have a couple of newbie questions I hope someone can help me with.

I know that these questions may seem stupid to some of you, but really this is all very new to me.

1. Is WHMCS supposed to "replace" WHM? Or is WHMCS an add-on / plug-in to WHM?
What I mean by this is:
Does WHMCS replace the functions one would normally perform in WHM
i.e.
  • Package Creation
  • New C-panel account creation
  • or other functions normally performed in WHM?

2. If it does not in fact "replace" WHM, are there steps I need to take to sync the 2, or does all the info need to be entered manually in each? i.e. package creation.

3. I am completely confused about the whole ENOM thing. This is how I am understanding it.
  • Hostgator resellers automatically have a FREE Enom account. All I have to do is add my free enom account login and set my own domain pricing? How does this translate to the clients credit card processing? Which moves me to my next question...
  • I use authorize.net as my gateway. If I've entered my API does ordering redirect to their secure server, or do I need to purchase a SSL cert. for use with WHMSC?
  • WHMCS setup it says: tick this box to use the default Enom nameservers for new domain registrations. Does that mean I (or the client) would need to log-in to C-panel and point the DNS to my name servers? Soooo confusing
  • Hostgator resellers can opt to purchase a an API that would allow them to sell domains direct and they would be registered to my name servers?
  • So advantages VS. disadvantages would be? Sorry I am completely unclear on this!

I really, really, really appreciate your help.

P.S. If I ever get all this figured out, I am going to produce a video entitled "Reseller hosting for idiots"

one more question. In the instructions for the WHMCS install on this thread it says to CMOD /announcements.xml to 777

I don't have a file with the .xml extension. My file is /announcements.php
Do I need to change it to 777 or another # ?

Thank you!

WHMCS doesn't replace WHM. WHMCS can interact with WHM to for example create, suspend, terminate cpanel accounts, and bill your customers, etc.

You can go to whmcs.com for documentation and join their forum for much help with that product.

If you have a technical background, it's not too hard to learn, but if not..... how will you ever support the customers you sell to?

Don't change anything to 777.

Default Successfully connecting Enom with WHMCS

Hey Gang long time no see,
i swung around to add this piece of How to knowledge.
This issue appears to be a common one among most WHMCS + Enom reseller account holders.

ISSUE = Successfully connecting Enom with WHMCS for domain name purchases either automatic or manual:

************************************************** ******
First let me be clear that it is Highly Recommended that you do not use Auto Registration, so in case of a fraud order, the domain name will not be purchased upfront which will cause problems for you.
************************************************** ******

The one thing most people overlook, especially first time hosters (due to it not being mentioned anywhere in either the WHMCS or the Enom docs), that you are required to submit your WHMCS website IP address to Enom before you can process live registrations. To do this, simply log in to your Enom account at enom.com, and create a new support ticket to ask them to add your IP into their live API access and you’re done.

*If you have a Enom account, either retail or reseller, through HostGator you must contact the HostGator Support Team and ask them to contact enom and have your ip added to their Live API access.*

I started out with Autopilot to manage my billing and switched today to WHMCS. I followed the instructions in one of the HG tutorials and requested Enom to add an IP address to my account. According to the tutorial this was NOT the IP for my reseller account. I contacted support yesterday via live chat and they provided me with the server IP which I submitted to Enom. What IP address do I really need and can I submit the ticket myself or does HG need to do it?

Default Re: WHMCS Basic To Advanced Setup & How-To's

Wanted to add this new how to for designing.

HOW TO GET SPEACIAL CONTENT TO DISPLY ONLY ON CERTAIN PAGES

One of the most common designing issues i run into nowadays is how to get specific content, like slider's, to show up on certain pages only, like the "index.php" page or the "tutorials.php" page.
The following code will fix all your header problems.

Code:

{if $filename eq 'share**osting' or $filename eq 'vpshosting' or $filename eq 'index'}
Speacial Content Here
{else}
Regular Content Here
{/if}
This will also alow you to add this function to pages "outside" the clientarea. Why "outside"? Because while some pages like index.php appears not to be "inside" the client area it is still inside the same directory folder, useing the same "Add New Pages" technology from here: http://docs.whmcs.com/Creating_Pages you can utilze this code to add as many pages "inside" or "outside" your WHMCS clientarea as you want.
