Default WHM Modify Accounts

Why do I not have a modify accounts option on WHM on Accura server. I`ve used WHM elsewhere and I have had.

I appreciate I can setup standard packages but if I want to modify one slightly, then I have to go in and setup a specific package. So if I want one to have 3 parked domains and one with 4 I have to setup 2 packages, If I want one with other options different on top of that then I have to setup yet more specific packages, it`ll be a nightmare.

Can we please have a modify account option. I spoke with someone on support and was advised I would have to setup an individual package for each slight variation rather than just change the options on a per user basis.

Please can we have it.

Craig

PS can I have access to the resellers section, I applied but no word as yet.

I asked this exact question of support and it was like trying to explain rocket science .. they kept coming back to the suggestion of creating a whole new package

This is what I got from them. There is a security issue involved with granting access to modify accounts. This is the warning given when they grant access to account modification from within WHM.

Account Modification (warning: this will allow circumvention of account creation limits, give shell access (unless explicitly disallowed), dedicated ips, etc)

Hope that helps.

Yeah, I was given the same response from support. As you all know, the problem is, when you`re a reseller you have to be flexible for your clients needs which in my case means "addons" beyond normal packages. Thanks to this glitch with the HG WHM it means I have to create a unique package for almost all of my clients. As I`m just in the process of migrating them from our current host thats a bit of a pain because I have in excess of 200, and that will mean at least 150 unique "packages".

IMO it should be stated specifically before signup that the Hostgators WHM install is restricted and doesn`t allow this. I`ve been with a couple of hosts over the years who use WHM and none of them have had this problem. Begs the question - Why do Hostgator have this problem and the others don`t ??????????

This is a problem with all hosts, some are just willing to take the risks that others aren't. It is not a problem with Host Gator's WHM. It is a problem with WHM. Basically, if a host uses WHM, it is a problem.

You will find with all decisions that HostGator makes, such as not allowing ssh access, revolve around server stability and security. This is largely part of the reason I chose them as a hosting company.

Yes, threat perception is one way, knowing and ignoring it is another. WHM is a powerfull software but has known flaws (like many others). Hostgator adheres to security policies, and prefers not compromising system stability at the cost of ease of use.

Quota can be modified on per account basis using the "change quota". Ideally, you should allow all features for all clients, and strip quantities. This also helps in letting them know what all else is available with you.

My 2 cents

You can change the plan that one is assigned to or change the sizes within the plan. If you need to do something custom for a client and be able to make create a new plan for them, just doesn't have to be visible in autopilot
