i've used *lots* of web servers. some i had control of... some i didn't and this is a first.
according to the way hostgator has their servers set up if if were to have a file structure like this: public_html/images and the path to my webpage looked like this: http://www.domain.com/topics/culture/index.html then in order to access an image in the images folder i would have to put: <img src="../../images/image.gif" /> and if the path to my webpage were this: http://www.domain.com/topics/culture/170/index.html in order to access an image in the images folder i would have to put: <img src="../../../images/image.gif" /> on every other server i've ever worked with all i would have to do is put: <img src="/images/image.gif" /> gator tech support insists that by putting the first slash their server is trying to get to the root of the server instead of the wwwroot. has anyone else experienced this? can someone else at gator explain to me why this weird setup? i would submit as an example of a site that is taking advantage of the *normal* setup www.alistapart.com, specifically view the source of www.alistapart.com/topics/culture/, and notice that all of their css links and img's begin with a "/" |

on every other server i've ever worked with all i would have to do is put:
<img src="/images/image.gif" /> This is the same with us.

I was having problems unzipping files from the cpanel file manager, and to my knowledge it still exists... On larger archives it will not extract all the files....
I was trying to install Mambo, yes I know it's in fantastico, but it's an older version and I'd have to update most of the files anyways... I'd upload the zip file downloaded from thier website and it would never exract completely, I called tech support and they basically told me to not do that anymore and that I should extract all the files and then ftp them up... Of course that DOES work, BUT it takes forever with that many files, upwards of 40 minutes instead up uploading the zip file in 4 or 5 minutes and then extracting them.... If I had SSH access, I'd just do it myself.... |
