Default Webmail Clients (can I add more?)

Good day! Apologies for the probably repetative question, the search feature didn't let me use it.

I am a previous HG customer and know the 3 webmail clients are Squirrelmail, Horde, and RoundCube. Is it possible to install a different client?

<- Couldn't help myself...

Good Morning,

This depends largely on the hosting account you'd be using. With our dedicated server and VPS hosting packages you would have the required access to setup a webmail client(s) beyond the 3 you noted already.

Unfortunately however our shared/reseller packages won't allow enough access to setup another webmail client.

If you have any other questions, comments or concerns please let me know.

Best Regards,

I was asking about shared hosting plans. Thank you for the quick and to the point reply.

Would it be possible to add another webmail client on either shared/reseller if I add another fee to my current account? Or I guess it is strictly for dedicated server and VPS? Thanks in advance.

I believe there are many webmail clients you can install in a shared server account without problems.

You can install any webmail client you wish on a shared account. I believe when GatorJMartin said you needed a VPS or Dedicated Server he was referring to the fact that you can not integrate the webmail client with cpanel unless you have root access. For example if you go to www.mysite.com/webmail it takes you to the standard cpanel webmail interface. The webmail clients you see (roundcube, squirrel mail, Horde) are all integrated into the cPanel installation, and again you will not be able to alter this without root server access. But you can install a standalone webmail client script such as (lets say for example) roundcube in a directory at www.mysite.com/roundcube and allow roundcube to act as its own standalone webmail client without ever logging in via cPanel. All you would need to do is download the installation files from the roundcube website and know your SMTP/IMAP ports and your email server (which im sure HG would be happy to help you get). This process is much like installing a content management system such as Joomla or Wordpress.
