I have a shared hosting account with a single domain. As the administrator, I'd like to give other users access to webmail accounts that I set up for them. I want to be able to provide users with a link (for instance: webmail.mydomain.com, or www.mydomain.com/webmail) that will take them directly to the webmail login screen (I prefer to use Horde), where they would then login using their own login and password.
I've read through the forums, and it has been suggested by Host Gator support that I should set up a subdomain and have it redirect to the desired webmail access point. However, this doesn't work. In every instance, I'm required to log into the cpanel administration account, which I don't want other users to have to do. After going back and forth with support, they have finally stated that this will not be possible. Does this sound right? My previous host allowed this kind of access, and a potential future host has made the same claim. My support ticket is: #CGN-38118-425 Thanks for any help! Dave |

Any accounts you create should be able to access www.yoursite.com/webmail
They need to login using their full email address as username (name@yoursite.com) and the password you've assigned. From there, they will choose the email interface to use. Is this not what you're looking for? |

I was hoping I could be taken directly to the webmail client of my choosing (in this case Horde), and that the user would only have to type in a simple username and password. Still, this is much closer than I was able to get yesterday. I could have sworn I'd already tried this solution, and found it didn't work. I must have missed it somehow...

dblack,
haven't had time to test this yet, but I think this script might be what you're looking for: http://www.hotscripts.com/Detailed/32562.html It says: "logins to webmail can be made with or without typing the full username@domain.com". If you plan to test it, let me know the results Bye, Stef. |

Thanks Stef, this script simplifies things. Entering a username and password takes me to the cpanel Mail Management screen, where I can choose the mail program I want. But I still wish I could skip the step of having to choose, and go directly to Horde (or whichever one I select as a default).

To give a somewhat shorter login process to Horde, and skip the Cpanel 3 webmail option.
Try using http://yourdomain.com:2095/horde/index.php You will still have to type in your username & password as before, but instead of seeing the Cpanel menu, it will just direct you into the horde login, and will probably just allow you to click "Login" instead of having to type in your username & password again. This is if you have cookies enabled, etc. Hope this helps... I also have .php login scripts to use if needed. Email me if you have any questions. Kris Parker Media Hosting |
