Okay, call me noob ..
![]() but I'm trying to understand why/how the web hosting packages -- specifically the swamp package ... a terrabyte disk, unlimited bandwidth, and unlimited domains for 12.95 a month .. and yet .. the reseller packages don't even have close to that for much more. eg the diamond has 100 gigs disk and 700 gig traffic for a hundred a month. how does this make sense? what makes it so worth the extra money? what are the benefits for having a reseller account? also .. the dedicated servers .. are they managed or non-managed? (and they have little drives too! what gives?) thnx tracey

Well, other than the ability to resell your services to another customer, the key difference is that you're on a shared server with fewer customers, hence each one has more resources they can use.
The problem with the low-end shared packages is that you will eat up resources long before you get to the bandwidth and/or storage allotment. |

noob!
![]() Quote:
in short, the non-reseller pacakges are subsidized by all the other accounts on the shared. almost nobody uses the space and bandwith alloted, but big plans at low rates sell better. resellers, however, tend to use whatever they have available, and therefore can't be subsidized by the under-utilized resource on other machines. hg has to have fewer resllers per machine to keep the server from being overloaded, hence the higher price. They oversell there service on shared account environments,
Say theres only ~600GB HDD on a server and theres ~600 accounts on that server and each can use ~600GB well you work it out. They don't expect anyone to use above 20GB. People just look for higher numbers not better support etc.
