Default What web host service plan should I get?

Before I start I want to say Hello to everyone here.
Hello everyone at HostGator!

I have been a customer with GoDaddy.com using Joomla and SMF. It's okay so far no problems running smf on GoDaddy Deluxe.

But now that I'm bored with my content I have new ideas for a new website which will contain:
  • Contents about 5Gig in total
  • A Forum (most likely a lot since all the content is going in there)
I was researching GoDaddy responses online and I've discovered GoDaddy has serious issues with PHP.
So my research led me here.
  • What type of web hosting plan should I purchase here that will satisfy my needs?
  • I'm also in a budget around 50-100 dollars. I don't want to invest too much.
  • And does HostGator support VB?(I know it doesn't allow VB software due to license)
  • I have also tried the demo and it looks like phpBB is availble.
  • Will phpbb be enough for my needs?

You would be best to start on a shared plan and see how you go

The share plans are cheap

Yes they allow vBulletin as long as it is a legal license

It depends on what your needs are.

Massive directory contents of various games. With information for each.

It probably makes more sense to go with the biggest shared plan instead of the smallest...at $15 it's still much less expensive than your budget.

Somebody tell me if I'm wrong, but I believe whois protection is a function of the domain registrar and your account there rather than your hosting company and the account with it (they just happened to be the same company when you had a hosting account at GoDaddy.)

I am happy that i purchased baby plan for now using a coupon.
I also registered a domain using hg.
Now as for whois protection when is that in effect?
When i whois my site, my domain is still up for grabs... help?

Whois protection is from your domain registrar, not from you host...most likely still godaddy in your case if all you're going to do is change the nameservers.

And no, as long as it's registered your domain name is NOT up for grabs. What whois protection does is hide your contact information from people who lookup your whois information.
