Hello
I work as a web designer and often recommend Hostgator to my clients. I was wondering if I could be part of the affiliate program without having to put up a banner - like giving a link to my customers for example. Is that possible? Thanks! |

the link that you have on the banner is your affiliate link. so you can use that

Remember, this is a peer forum, so to get a definitive answer you should write affiliates (at) hostgator.com.

Yes you can offer your customers a direct link which is provided in the affiliate user panel. You can also create unique campaigns to track each customer (whether they click your link, and whether they actually use hostgator!)

I reported him quite a few hours ago.
That's the one serious shortcoming on this forum - it takes far, far too long to get rid of spam posts. I see any number of HG employees logged on - do they not have the ability to delete posts? If not, why not?! |

I know HG has some security restrictions on HG employees logging on with their admin privileges (which not all have, anyway) from home, so that could affect things. Plus (this is just an educated guess), support staffers not only are working on several computers and several windows on several computers, tending to support tickets is obviously a much higher priority than raking out forum spammers. So if one has a forum window open late at night it doesn't necessarily mean s/he is actively reading, watching, etc. the forum, let alone tending to the detritus. Also, in a case such as this where four or five messages are affected, sometimes not all are removed. The spam problem is much, much better than it was until last year when off-site image posting was prohibited in the public categories. Hidden images, the classic forum spam irritant had been an issue, but then one of the black hat fora posted a tip about stuffing cookies into smileys, and as a result the public categories here probably got a few hundred pieces of spam a week These regular spams are just annoying, but the hidden/disguised image ones planted cookies for HG and many other affiliate programs.
