Question VPS Hosting questions.

In the cPanel demo, it shows

Apache version 1.3.41

Is Apache REALLY that far behind in cPanel? On my current server, I'm at 2.2.3.

How many domains can you create in WHM? In the create a new account section, the 'Accounts Limits Based on Resources' part makes it look like you can't have than many domains.

On the shared servers, we're on Apache 2.2.17. I think it's a safe bet that the VPS servers are, as well.

On a VPS you would be able to select which version you want to run since you have root access. As for the number of accounts in WHM, you would be able to create as many accounts as you wish.

Thumbs up Re: VPS Hosting questions.

Yep, you're right. I ordered and got it set up, and I got

Apache/2.2.17 (Unix)

And at the 'Create a New Account' section, there is no 'Accounts Limits Based on Resources' stuff. I think the demo is just an older version.

Documentation always lags behind reality, reflecting the fact that techies detest doing documentation.

For the number of accounts in WHM, I was able once to crowd around 2200 accounts on a single server. It was pretty unstable but was working

It was a reseller server only. If I remember right, was around 50 resellers on the server.

I'll never do that again.. trust me!

if you've got VPS and full root access to the server, you can upgrade and update your apache to any version you like. That's what I love VPS for or even go for NGinx, I am using it, and I love it... nginx is event driven, high performance HTTP server vs. Slow Threaded Apache. I pronounce it like N Jinx but developer meant Engine X

check it out http://wiki.nginx.org/Main

"Nginx is known for its high performance, stability, rich feature set, simple configuration, and low resource consumption. "

very true statement, I've been using nginx for ages, it's awesome!
