Hello, I got several questions..
-Do the vps plans have burstable ram?
On other vps hosting plans you have a guaranted ram and a burstable

-Have you tested webmin(controlpanel) on your vps plans?
Webmin is an opensource controlpanel that is much faster then cpanel and it have had less vulnerablities then cpanel. The best part is that it is free.

-Will I get a free ssl with vps? if not how much does it cost for your ssl?

I don't see why one should not downgrade from Dedicated Server to VPS? Dedicated server has became less competitive compare to VPS and should reduce the price or upgrade to higher spec.

Dedi Basic $174 Per month:
2 X 1.86GHz CPU
1000 MB Ram
250 GB Hard Drive
1,500 GB Bandwidth

--------------------------------------------

Level 7 VPS $149.95 Per month:
4.24 GHZ CPU
3168 MB Ram
165 GB Hard Drive
2250 GB Bandwidth

Level 6 VPS $119.95 Per month:
3.39 GHZ CPU
2304 MB Ram
102 GB Hard Drive
1800 GB Bandwidth

Here's where it could really be a huge difference : Their is a limit on the number of inodes on the VPS Lv3: 1,000,000 inodes max for the entire container.

I don't know if the limit of inodes goes higher on the other package but will let you know shortly, I've just requested an upgrade to Lv4.

Just to let you know that after upgrading my VPS from Lv3 to Lv4, limit is still 1,000,000 inodes.

With just 3 websites which are really small one, I'm already using 17% of my total inodes. This translate to 174,810 inodes for the installation of WHM, cPanel, firewall and minor addon to run my VPS safely.

I can definitely see an issue on short term here...

I thought with VPS we wasn't going to have to keep up with Inodes or at least that is what I was told before purchasing the VPS. So now I have to watch both inodes & disk space

Mine is now using 188,300

I'll forward this along to Dave for his review to see if the inode limit is indeed going to be raised for the higher level plans. Thanks for the feedback!

Hello,
We set a limit of 1,000,000 inodes to protect the VPS server from file system abuse. One million inodes is quite a bit, if you have cPanel installed roughtly 50,000 inodes (ball park figure) are from cPanel and the applications that get installed with it.

We are flexible with inode limits on the higher plans if there is an acceptable reason.

Dave you are always a big help but in this case on my shared account I had used only 50,000- 60,000 but on the VPS it shows 189,000 so I would assume the OS & CPanel has to be using most if not all the extra inodes which would be more than 100,000. Either way for now I seem to be ok I just don't like it that I was told I wouldn't have to watch Inodes anymore & instead would watch space used like it used to be. Now I will need to watch both but I really doubt it will be an issue at this point.

I honestly wish all companies would quit advertising what I consider deceptive marketing such as unlimited space since it technically doesn't exist in reality with hidden limits not advertised accept in TOs. But with this said I still like HG better than any past hosting companies.

If needed, I can get it setup higher for you. Its just there to stop file system abuse on our servers.

Maybe in the future we will have some advanced specifications listed. A lot of clients don't know what a lot of settings will mean, and it might scare them off, when most settings won't affect them at all.

I'll try to get at least something more technical listed on a separate page. Although I really haven't seen anyone list things like inodes, kmemsize, process limits, tcp buffers, or number of sockets allowed.

We've really got nothing to hide, we even allow a lot of clients to use slightly more resources then they are given.

Dave all I can say is as usual you are GREAT!!! As I said I actually don't have an immediate issue. Im also not really wanting to seem like I am complaining just thought it would be good for you to see the way this stuff looks. Remember I actually asked about the inodes because ever since HG changed to inodes I was constantly watching them because they jumped in size so fast even though I have gotten very good at keeping my disk space low. I personally liked it better before inodes was added to the mix.

I still really like the new VPS though so far & appreciate HG Support during my transfer. Also Dave you in particular have been a ton of help
