We're working on a remote DNS management tool for all VPS clients. Specifically it will really help customers without cPanel, which don't already have DNS configured.
The idea behind this is to make things easy, so if you have a non-cPanel based VPS, you don't have to worry about configuring DNS services. Also, since the DNS will be managed outside of your VPS, if your VPS were ever to crash or go down for any reason, you'll still have access to pointing your domain to another IP in the meantime. Here are a few of the features: - Allow VPS clients to manage domain names, sub-domains, private DNS, and all other DNS records from an interface. - Clustered, meaning high availability and redundancy - IP's for DNS will be on different subnets, to appease different domain registrars (specifically international registrars) that require different C class IP's for name servers. An added benefit will be that you don't have the small overhead of running DNS on your server. This is still in development, but a beta preview should be available shortly. If you have a VPS, and are interested in the beta, please private message me.

Here are a couple of pictures of what the BETA DNS management tool looks like. We've had a few people interested in it, but would like more feed back. Let me know if you want to try it out.

Hi Dave,
Layout looks good, nice and clean without any clutter. My first question as I used this was, how does it verify that you are the owner, or I guess since this is a beta the functionality isnt all there? Just as an example, I added hostgator.com as a domain. Now, it doesnt show any hostgator.com DNS info, just the defaults, but will there be a verification setup to have this tied to my domain? Or is this supposed to be just for reference purposes? |

For the people who I forgot to give the nameserver IPs to, here they are...
74.53.106.242 / 74.53.25.189 / 74.53.25.188 You may use any of them. |

I see what you mean now.. it only happens when you add the domain and edit it as soon as its added. The issue should be fixed now. And on top of that I added in better logic so it won't print that message if something similar happens in that same page, it will simply sort it by the default sorting and say nothing was updated. The issue should be fixed. Let me know if you see any other problems. |

DaveC,
The DNS management is really working well at this time. It did correct an issue reported my ConfigServer Firewall I had with my nameservers which is: Quote:
I am using HGDNS on two major domain name used with multiple subdomain which are for customers usage. After correcting only a few minor bugs, I am confident to make it my primary DNS management system. Anybody else using it at this time? |

Hi,
I've just ordered a level 5 vps with cPanel and was wondering if i could use this? Basically i'd like to set up my DNS so if a clients website goes down i could host a simple "Website Currently Down" page on another hosting account? Would i be able to use the remote DNS service for this? Thanks, Andrew |

Hi,
Is this still available now in beta or full release ? Did I understand correctly that this means that the private name servers are not mandatory for VPS without cPanel ? Jean-Luc
