Default VPS, DNS, im lost! please help

Hello.

I bought a vps4 and im trying to point my shared site to it.
but really, im not a tech guy, i need some help.

my site is www.futilish.com (shared HG )

i need to point it to my new vps4:
ns1.futilish.com
ns2.futilish.com

but first i need to register those names with hostagor. Ok.

then i have to do an DNS UPDATE?
WHM edit DNS ZONE.
i have 2 entries.
fut.futilish.com // <---VPS hostname?
futilish.com // < --- primary domain and the only one i need to register

Edit futilish.com, add ns1 and ns2.
Screenshot does not look like HG page.
HG site have FTP pointing to domainname.com
my ftp/cpanel/whm/webmail/webdisk are poiting to IP adress, its that ok?

Ping TEST:
Ping request could not find host ns1.futilish.com

DNS Glue.
Look at SOA and replace nameserver with ur primary private name server..etc..
its already look like the screen shot.

What im doing wrong? Do i need to delete the domain parking on my cpanel shared for futilish??

Also, i put futilish.com to my second IP, account informatoin WHM, futilish.com , IP, second IP dedicated.

Please, any advice , anything. i have made so many changes, im completly lost and frustrated, i also have like 5 FTP special accounts on the cpanel for futilish i created using WHM and i cant delete them :/

thank

i also got this email:

IMPORTANT: Do not ignore this email.

Your hostname (ns1.futilish.com) could not be resolved to an IP
address. This means that /etc/hosts is not set up correctly, and/or
there is no dns entry for ns1.futilish.com. Please be sure that the
contents of /etc/hosts are configured correctly, and also that
there is a correct 'A' entry for the domain in the zone file.

Some or all of these problems can be caused by /etc/resolv.conf
being setup incorrectly. Please check that file if you believe
everything else is correct.

You may be able to automatically correct this problem by using the
'Add an A entry for your hostname' option under 'Dns Functions' in
your Web Host Manager.

your domain is still pointed to HG nameservers ns879.hostgator.com and ns880.hostgator.com which in turn are pointing to your shared account.

what you need is for your domain to point to your new private nameservers ns1 and ns2.futilish.com.

so you need to first, register your new nameservers, pointing them at your vps ip/s and second, you need to point your domain at those newly registered nameservers.

You do both of these tasks at your domain registrar. not at your vps.

also keep in mind dns changes can sometimes take a day or even two to propagate, but usually just a matter of hours. sometimes even less.

using tools like the tools at this site can help somtimes.

You will not get a ping to ns1.futilish.com complete until your new nameservers are "registered". Right now it appears that this has not been done. I've never seen what access to your domain settings you get when having HG register a domain so I can't help much there. I think you may need to take this up with HG. I would not wait a couple days, put in a ticket now.

remember too, from within WHM, ns1.futilish.com and ns2.futilish.com need to be set as nameservers each pointing to one of your vps ip/s. These are the ip/s that HG will use when registering your nameservers.

how many times have you read the word nameservers lately?!

thanx!

im still waiting for the nameserver by HG.

i created one account/package in WHM for futilish, then logged Cpanel for that account.

ftp is working, site is working, blog ok. (by ip)
How can i test the email?? i created one as well, and i can send email. but the reply its not working.

myemail@futilish.com ( not working, the email must be going to old dns account) i tried myemail@ip.com with no luck. How can i test it?

revisit the steps you mentioned. Just one more thing is to be added as one of the replies too. Your VPS is all good. Only domain must point to exact DNS. Which is from within the domain manager/panel or whatever you have received.
Especially in the managed VPS some things are even done through chat with hostgator. They are good at that.
Best of Luck with your efforts.

i got it to work

VZ, WHM, DNS, name server, cpanel etc.... all clear

but, the vps was not a good deal, down 3 times in 1 day, cpu usage, disk usage, etc (for only 1 wordpress blog of 20 mb, 30.000 visitor p/day ).

i changed the dns back to my shared and some friends told me that i must go with mediatemple, so now i have an account there. let see how it works.

anyways, hostgator was very helpful with all my dubs on this process, i learned a lot.

i will keep my shared account here, i rlly like it.

Sounds like you really need a dedicated server.
