Hi Dave,
Thanks for answering this for me. Yes, I realize that space and bandwith have nothing to do with speed and power..(sry , 2 statements merged together in my orginal post), It's just that I;ve read in various places how great these VPS's were or supposedly are. ( as an in between shared and dedi). Power and Speed more so. I can privately PM you the site if you wish to take a look?. I'd rather ask to solve my own curiosity. Lastly, I love Gator Host and have been here for almost a year now without ANY problems what so ever. I am a forever customer and do recommend GH to anyone who is looking for a great place to be. There is nothing wrong at all with my service, and I am happy with the speed and power (although I always want more!) I have, especially for a forum. When I am ready for a dedicated server, It will be here. I do however, wish there was just that "something in between"!

I had a fairly lengthy post that I scrapped as I'm essentially just a technician here: I have little to no insight as to why we don't offer VP servers at this time. With that said I personally think with the power needed for each hardware node to only place 10-15 users on it (or less) the margins simply aren't worth it. (Margins that include but aren't limited to: profit margins )With low margins come sacrifices -- whether it be support quality, speed (e.g. overloading servers) or something else. In the end the performance gains aren't there when comparing to a shared account: Why upgrade to anything before a dedicated? The best option would be to get a secondary shared account that way worrying about reaching the limits of the shared account aren't on your mind. If you want something 'in between' -- semidedicated (esp. our new ones which are all beefed up p4's instead of the previously used celerons) would also be something to look into. It's by no means a budget option but it leaves control in our hands: root access isn't always a good thing unless you have a fairly thorough *nix background. Anywho, off to do those pesky tickets. ![]() Have a great evening everyone and my apologies for rambling! |

I'd not hesitate in Semi-Dedicated, but then I'd lose my Reseller abilities, and I know profit margins are issue with offering Reseller on a Semi too. I agree and can understand why HG doesn't do this with Semi's ..."We gots ta make it worth our while as smart business people, otherwise, there's just no use". And I agree as I operate a few small businesses myself. So I am on your side on this from a business standpoint. Ah, it won't be long, I'll move to a Dedicated soon, not so much because I need it, but because I want it.
I'm going to PM you the website and info, take a peak at it and if you have any comments about the VPS and their offer ...great. I don't understand how they can offer what they are, as said, it's too good to be true. Chow for now, |

Responded via PM Ltaylor.
Actually a semi-dedicated reseller account isn't a half bad idea. |

Obviously it would still be a shared server, but by limiting the amount of people on it you'd have a lot more of a clue what's happening and it'd be much easier to track down the offender.

Dave, thanks for your PM reply. My curiosity is solved. No worries here, I'd rather get down and beg with the rest of the Semi Reseller Wishful hopefulls and wait to see if GaterJay ever brings Semi Reseller here LOL. If it's not a profit loss idea, it might be worth HG thinking about, as it does appear that many here would jump tommorrow from a shared to a semi, instead of waiting to be ready for a Dedicated.
