Default VPS - 2 IPs vs 4?

Hi,

I'm looking into upgrading to a VPS account (I'm a reseller) and I'm wondering what the advantage is of having 4 IP addresses? The order page provides for either 2 or 4 (4 costs an extra few dollars per month) but I couldn't find anything that would explain the difference.

Thanks

Chris

Usually you need more than 2 IP addresses only if you install SSL certificates.

Hello,

As has been previously stated, while there is no direct/immediate benefit from just assigning a dedicated IP to an account, there are certainly many situations that require this. It really comes down to the VPS owner though and their clients' requirements.

If you're only running one site, 2 IP's will likely cover your needs. As an example however, if you were running dozens of clients off that VPS, their needs may be different requiring that you provide them each an IP. One example mentioned was in regards to a SSL certificate, which does require a dedicated IP for the involved account needing the SSL certificate. Another quick example would be configuring Anonymous FTP which requires a dedicated IP address as well. There's definitely other instances/configurations that may require the use of a dedicated IP as opposed a shared IP, however for the sake of keeping this short, I'll leave it at that for now.

If you have any further questions or would like this clarified further, please don't hesitate to ask!
