Tim was kind enough to beta test this new awesome service.
I have to say this is by far te best I have seen in awhile.
I set up a toll free number not in a matter of minutes. More like a matter of seconds. And it forwared to my cell phone number and the quality was great. There was no voice break up at all. When this service gets launched I amd going to cancel my cable providers phone service. I m truly excited on this product seeing it in action. Also to set up the number was simple and easy. I also set up a toll free fax number works flawlessly. That also tooks only seconds to get going. One more thing it keep track of what calls were made out and in. That is nice. Congrats on a great product and the teams that have worked on it from voipo and hostigator. I cannot wait to offer this service to my customers. I have at leat 3 people intrested in this product already. Agaain Great work Tim I am sure the hard work will turn into a goldmine for you guys.

I know, Tim, you aren't big on timelines and we all know why, but do you have any idea when you will have pricing and how reseller packages will work?

Having tested the service myself, it's extremely impressive. Tim and the VOIPo staff have done an amazing job fine tuning their process and backend systems, and the ease of use and call quality are as good as, if not better, than most of the competition (and believe me, I've used quite a few of the services that are or have been out there). Can't wait for this to go live!

Yes, but it's not the most streamlined process with VoIP yet. Just required a copy of the recent bill, a signed authorization and can take up to 30 days. This is standard with all VoIP providers because the porting process just hasn't matured enough for VoIP yet.

For resellers, basically you'll have a base package which will give you access to the reseller program.

Then you'll have wholesale packages that you can resell for whatever price you want.

Your customers can use a generic white label vPanel or you'll be able to add your logo and brand it very easily.

It'll work pretty much like WHM in terms of creating accounts, setting their limits, etc.

Yes, you'll be able to do this. The only thing to keep in mind is that if you don't have a really good connection to our servers (look for under 100ms ping times), the voice quality may not be good.

I'm not sure if these are dumb questions or not, but...

1. I have DirecTV satellite service and I've heard it could have problems when using VOIP services. FYI, DirecTV uses a phone line to order pay-per-view/etc...

2. I switch to VOIP, can I keep my old/current phone number or am I required to get a new one?

3. What type of hardware is required to hook up to your phones? Is it included for a certain price? Can it be located at the central hub of the phone service in the house? How does that work? I've read different things about VOIP and it seems each has their own method.

1) It's true that DirecTV dialing will be hit/miss sometimes on any VoIP. It will work when there are "perfect network conditions", but if there is any latency or packet loss it has problems making the connection. The same goes for using physical fax machines on VoIP. Basically it's like the other end listening for the modem tones during transmission, but if there is an echo or drop even for a second, the connection gets messed up.

With that being said, we've had almost a 100% success rate with BETA testers using things like that because we don't compress voice.

2) Yes, we can port numbers over. With VoIP in general though it does take a little time. Sometimes it can take a week, but usually it'll take almost a month.

3) For the residential accounts, we provide a device that you just plug into your route and then can either plug a phone directly into it or if you want, you can plug it into one of your existing phone jacks (just using a regular phone cord) and all the other jacks connected together in your house will work.

So, you are saying that the typical phone "system" in your house is "networked"?

The only drawback, at this point, for me to use it, would be the satellite issue. But, I could still resell, I suppose, even if it doesn't work for me.

Is there a way to test my system out (with a different number or some other method) without cancelling my current phone/etc...?

Sure, what I've found in the past is that a lot of people do feel better about getting an account with a new phone number, trying the service and then once they're comfortable with it, they port their other number over and swap the numbers out. That's not a problem.

I have a couple more question how would 911 work with voipo for the residential side. Will voiopo have 911 or e 911 capablities.

Yes, the residential service has a full nomadic E911 service which allows users to update their E911 address in real-time online (only in the US).

As far as equipment, you could use most SIP compatible equipment with the service, but we can't provide support for anything other than our equipment since the firmware, etc is specifically designed to work with our service.

Anything branded by another provider has firmware for their service and is likely locked to prevent it from being used on another service.

So you are using g.711, are you also going to offer g.729 or any of the other codecs?

Also are you going to be SIP standards compliant? What other protocols will you support, if any? Will you support connections from asterisk or other IP-PBX's? If so how many concurrent connections will the service allow?

I think this will be a great opportunity for VAR if the proper support is there.

The residential offering is designed to work just with our hardware because many of the features are specific to it.

We have an origination/termination platform that fully support Asterisk and anything you want to use with it, but it's primarily just calling without a lot of extra features.

Currently we are only offering G.711 support, but may add more codecs in the future.

Sorry Tom - Lots of people contacting us today.

No solid ETA for you. It's pretty apparent that there is going to huge demand and we're going to phase things in starting with the services mentioned in the first post and work through any issues that come up.

We don't really expect many technical issues, but handling a large volume of orders overnight has a lot of challenges with staffing, etc.

By phasing things in, we can limit any impact of problems and make sure things are running smoothly without taking on too much at once.

In the very beginning there will be little integration with 3rd party software, but it's something we'll add over time. We'll provide a way to handle basic billing transactions, ordering, etc, but it won't be fully integrated with your current hosting billing software yet. We'll also have an API available for those of you who are programers and want to do some integration on your own. Specific info on that will be available when we launch the reseller program.

Our developers are still wrapping up a few minor things. We've seen a huge response from HostGator customers since posting this thread and anticipate significant volume at launch. For that reason, everything is being double-checked and tested to make sure our launch will be smooth.

We'd rather be 100% sure that we're fully ready to go than to deliver a service that has problems.

We are moving the launch up to March 3rd just to be certain we're ready to go.

With that being said, there is some good news. We're going to be opening up the BETA a little more in the next week or so and will be giving you the opportunity to help us wrap up testing. More info to come.

I know some of you have mentioned that you are waiting for launch, and we appreciate your patience.

It will be worth the wait.
