The DC may have scheduled it, but they failed to send out emails or any notification of the below upgrade.
They plan on giving every server it's own vlan. Vlans keep networks more stable, and prevent everyone from going down if a major dos should happen. This is a good step for us and them however we do wish we could have provided you all with a warning of the downtime. "Time: 0200-0400 EST Date: 11/11/2003 Description: During this maintenance window an existing VLAN switch is scheduled to be replaced; this is an upgrade to a more robust switch to accomodate the migration of servers to a VLAN architecture. Downtime is expected to last between 15-30 minutes, and staff will do everything possible to minimize this. Only servers in racks BR12, BR11, BR09 and the ANxx racks will be affected during this window. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. "
