Default Virus Scanning

Does HG do virus scans on the servers they host? If not, is there a way for HG customers to run a virus scan on their section of space?

Virus Scanning? - Do they at least scan their forums? I have seen serveral Gators on here in the 12 hours since i posted but not one has responded to this question.

And before anyone says "submit a support ticket", if there was a problem with I would, however there have been a few times I have contacted support on other things, and have been told to "check the forums" or sent a link to the forums.

Does anyone have any idea of the answer?

We run lunux servers which do not need virus scans unlike their Windows counterpart.

www.avast.com <<<<<<< in my opinion the best virus scanner in the world, and it is free! Every person that I have ever showed this to and has used has agreed.

On the subject of Virus Scanning, I know that Linux doesn't require virus scanning, however - would there ever be any chance of getting e-Mail virus scanning in place?

I'd to would like to see this, as a lot of my clients have had there Email addys for a long time and I too get virus all the time, course I am protected and keep it that way, and know what NOT to click, but some of my clients are, well a little computer challenged.

If your clients have Outlook and a good virus scanner they would be protected because most AntiVirus programs scan email.

I have to agree with the Avast post. It is by far the best I have had. Norton missed 5 incidents on one of my machines. Norton was up to date and reported nothing wrong. One of my ISP's sent me a notice of a virus or trojan on my machine or the networked ones & advised I get rid of all other anti-virus and go with Avant. Avant found them all

Well, In the real world, even with most of my clients with firewalls, up-to-date anti-virus programs, Norton, AVG, macaffe, etc, different email clients, (Eudora), if a link comes in from a website in there Email, they some how have this uncontrollable urge to click on the darn thing, no matter what I have told them, and as soon as they do, the site has spyware, Trojan's etc, or they will click on something that looks good, "weather bug" etc, because it looks so neat.... There is not a program out there that puts common sense into there head.

Most of my clients are over 40 to 70 years old. I even have one that says she will be looking for another person to host her site & Email because she does not want the hassle of logging in with passwords and can't understand the need for it, no matter that I tell her how dangerous that is. NO, she does not have access to her Cpanel, as most of my clients do not want to know nothing about it, that's why I manage all my websites. Now mind you, these are professional people, some making over 7 figures a year. Now then when I tell them they should have there own server for this, and tell them how much, they suddenly go into cardiac arrest........ Guess that's why they can have that kinda money???

Avast is great. Back in 1997 McAfee used the Avast engine. That came to an end when McAfee bought DrSolomon. But, the point is that Avast has been around a while.

Their free product is for home use. They also have products for a cost for business PCs, servers, etc.

Shameless self promotion:
If you need licenses for Avast visit http://www.neo-solutions.net/antivirus.htm (this is a HostGator hosted site)
