Is anyone else experiencing regular site drop outs?
I have noticed that my site www.aptcode.com was unreachable at least 6 times in the 2 weeks since I moved to HostGator. Today it went back down less than an hour after I asked support to "fix" it the first time. Heavy server load was the reason I got back (though not from my site!). I use my site for my business - the load is I suspect very low, but 100% connectivity is extremely important. I cannot afford to lose business as recklessly as (it seems to me) the way HostGator run theirs. Dave. Last edited by booster; 04-25-2005 at 12:56 PM. |

There was a site crashing your server, any time you have a new server being filled you get a few server crashers that need to be weeded out. Things should only improve for you from now on.

That's 7 times I'm aware off in about a 2 week period. So the policy is grin and bear it while you weed out anyone else on my server who is a "server crasher"? Not a comforting thought - especially when it drags on like this. The upheaveal costs of moving elsewhere are looking like a price worth paying.

We are monitoring your server and weeding out any problems. One of the new sign-ups seems to be consistently getting attacked. We have been blocking the attacks as they come in.

I've yet to have any problems with Hostgator, save a couple timeouts, but that happens no matter where you go, just someone on the server using too much resources.

Hi Booster.
I hope things have improved for you, as Brent stated a few times it's not unlikely that a few bad apples ruin the bunch and require attention at times. This is just to be certain you're back in full speed and without issues, if you need anything definetly let myself or another know regarding this. Appreciate your patience as well, thanks! |

I'm reluctant to praise you too much until I have some more good days under my belt http://www.forums.hostgator.com/imag...lies/smile.gif However I do like the features and performance of Hostgator, so if all stays well I will be a happy little bunny. And it is definitely appreciated that hostgator are taking an interest now. |

Booster,
Over the past, I have gone through several other hosting companies out there. I fell for their sales pitch that they were the best and dropped my money down. Many times I paid yearly trying to save a little. After a few weeks, I found that I was not getting what I paid for and called them on their guarantee. One blamed another user so it wasn't their fault and wouldn't honor their guarantee. Others just shined me on and one even tried blaming me (even though I hadn't been there in two weeks doing anything). My point is this. I was very reluctant to even give HG a try. I am glad I did. I started a web hosting business when I saw the need in this area. I am now getting ready to go to a dedicated server because I know that I will only go from good to better with it. There is always someone that signs up and sets up their site and HG starts having troubles with server crashes and they have to get them cleared up or get them out. Most times, these are people that were dropped from their last host for the same reasons. It is some of the scripting they use, but you can't tell them that. I understand your reluctance to praise HG, because I was reluctant about telling anyone else about them because of my past experience with others. I don't give it a second thought anymore. While their is always areas that can be improved, HG seems like they are listening at least and that is a start. |

It's also a poor way of complimenting a service if you think it through. My concern is the here and now. Since my last message I've seen another 3 site drop outs - thankfully not for as long as before, but still annoying. I would have expected better control over this sort of thing but I'm still hopeful that it can be settled down in yet a few more days. It may be that I came to Hostgator from a different perspective than you and some others I see praising Hostgator. I kinda liked my last hosts service - as far as it went. The support was outstanding - not words that trip easily from my mouth believe me. But I had outgrown their best offering, it was time to move on. So perhaps I'm comparing Hostgator at a higher level than you, which is a compliment (echoing earlier comment) if you think it through. http://www.forums.hostgator.com/images/smilies/wink.gif |

It's only fair to say that things have settled down nicely now and I can enjoy what Hostgator offers.
I found it very reassuring that Hostgator took the problem seriously and resolved it. For anyone looking for a hosting service I can recommend them to check Hostgator out, they are not perfect (who is) but the service they provide is top notch and apart from the "bedding" in problem I had, I have no issues with what they deliver. Dave. |
