Does HG let customers use vbulletin on their baby plan? At my current host it uses to much resources and you are not allowed to do it. Are you allowed to use it here? Is HG now offering custom plans because last time I checked I got the answer of no.......
Thanks! |

vBulletin is allowed (we're using it here) I've never heard of a host prohibiting vBulletin, though I know of many that prohibit cgi-based versions of UBB for the reason you mentioned - it's pretty processor intensive. Of course *any* bulletin board (no matter which particular brand) has the potential to put a strain on the server. If you run a board with a lot of concurrent users, then that would increase the mySQL usage and drive the load up. In such a case, we would recommend you to go with a dedicated machine.
We currently only offer Fantastico in our cPanel builds, though scripta may be considered in the future. Custom plans? Sure. Just drop an email to sales@hostgator.com with your requirements and they will do their best to accomodate you. -Justin |

b) Run any type of interactive real-time chat applications that require server resources. Remotely-hosted services are fully allowed.
Well thats in the TOS. Does that mean I cannot run any of the chats that fantastico offers? Thanks! |

Sorry to keep adding but it wont let me edit....see below this is the response I got when I sent in a custom plan estimate thing.......Thats the same response I got last time. Is it because I want to go below the baby plan or are you just not accepting custom plans? Very confused.....
Sorry but we don't currently have any custom accounts, the only accounts available are those listed. Thank you for your business! Hostgator.com ----- Original Message ----- From: named removed To: sales@hostgator.com Sent: Tuesday, August 24, 2004 3:58 PM Subject: price estimate I am considering after my current hosts contract runs out switching to hostgator but I don’t need all of the bandwidth and the space used in the baby plan so I was wondering if I could create a custom plan along the lines of the one below and how much would it cost? 1,000 mb of space 15,0000 mb of bandwidth It would be dropping the space by 1,000 since I really need no where even close to 1,000 mb and taking the bandwidth down a bit……..Would you consider this custom plan or not? Or do I need to do the baby plan? Thanks HG! |

I apologize for the confusion. We are in the process of re-working our TOS, and that very line has been marked for a re-write. You may use any of the applications found within cPanel/Fantastico. The main thing we do not allow as far as chat goes is for someone to run an IRC stuff. Eggdrops, etc.

Ahh, I see. Generally we will be glad to set up custom plans if our pre-configured plans fail to meet a customers requirements for disk space and/or bandwidth. You are wanting less, and not more, so that is probably why they are unable to accomodate your request. The Baby Croc is what we would recommend for you, even if it is more space than you need at the moment, it does allow for you to expand and store a ton of files.

Also, I noticed that you said you are considering switching hosts "after your current contract runs out". It may comfort you to know that we do not require our customers to sign or agree to any contracts whatsoever. If you are unhappy with our service at any time, all that is required to cancel your account is a quick email and a pleasant "goodbye".
