Hostgator allows only 500 emails per hour to be sent. I want to use a alternative
mailserver which i run myself on a serverpc. We have a big forum with many members and when i want to bulkemail them it will exceed the limit of 500/hour. In the forum admincp i set up the SMTP server settings appropiately but the forum cant connect to the mailserver i set up because a socket cannot be opened. Is this a hostgator issue or is it something on the mailservers end? Thanks for any help. Greetz zunnie |

Probably port 25 is closed (for normal users) in the firewall in HostGator servers.

I tested the mailserver with another pc and it works fine. Hostgator is appearantly blocking the connection.

All ports that are not used for something are closed by default.
You can ask them to open that port for outbound connections...
