How about a section on the forums where we can ask fellow webmasters questions and post our solutions to problems?

What do you mean? That is the entire forum really.
![]() There is reseller support, shared support, dedicated support (Depending on what group you belong to) And then a general web hosting forum and such. |

You have to be verified to see them. :|

I think want VideoFlames is after is specific sections for certain things, example, there is no real place to ask html/css/php/mysql questions, no 'general' as such, everything is hosting related to which HG admits they don't really moniter.
A couple of examples could be: client side coding: html/css/javascript etc server side: php/mysql/pear etc advertising: affilaites programs, link exchanges ... (not HG related) search engine: placement, do and don'ts, rankings ... etc A good method would be look in the pre sales section and choose the topics for main sections from the common asked questions, even the ones I've listed could have sub sections of the examples given. This way, if HG is unable to help then the members (who shouldn't have to help) can help out one another and therefore creating an ongoing help section for new and old members. Seems really basic and am not sure why it was never put in place before, I guess you have your reasons. VideoFlames, if you need specific help on a topic use google to find a related forum, if it's web page based find a good webmasters forum, if it's search engine, then search engine forum, heaps of good ones around, I have my favourites but I'd be biased ![]() I'll probably get my butt kicked for this but other web hosts are also a good place to find answers as they usually run the same software and have had the same problems. Just typing your problem into google made find you the answer. Note to HG, the last paragraph is not there to cause trouble, it is there to help out a fellow member as Gatorbrent says (quote) In the future, please open a support ticket. We do not monitor the support forums that well.(/quote) found here. |

Yes, well. This forum is for support issues to do with the hosting not, the actual content. Although that would be pretty cool, and I'd love to help.

Hi! Actually, it is a pretty good idea... so we as members of this forum and your customers have a place to help out each other.
Like my problem now... I do not know how to migrate the database of my vbulletin forum to here. |

I'm confused are you a member or a customer? If you're a customer you get validated and there's a load of other support forums for customers only. If you're a member well, this is a customer forum really. Not members. Eh?

Yes, I got confused for a bit there with windwebguy. He said he was a member.. anyway. Yeah. If you're a hostgator shared, reseller, or dedicated. You can notify justin@hostgator.com with your username, password, and domain. And with your username on the forums. And you'll be validated. There's another 6 or 7 forums for members that have been validated.

Thank you MachineDog yes, still waiting for "validation" since I joined this forum only yesterday and have been instructed to wait for an e-mail up to 48hours.
In the meantime I have solved the problem I kept running into, not caused by my software (as suggested) or my newbie status, but by semantics...the famous you say tomato and i say tomato. hey it is people like you, who "love to help" , that when you cruise a forum for an answer, always have posted a helpful solution to a problem similar to your own and open a door in the mind! thx Last edited by tina; 08-25-2005 at 01:35 PM. |

Jay, If I'm correct. Non-validated members aren't able to post in the General Announcements area or the Network Status forum.

Got "validation" and looking into the forum I can see that "Gators" and some members ( Machine Dog? ) are in Florida...Hope all is well and everybody stayed out of "Katrinas" path. As a beta-tester for cnn's feeds I can see all this flooding in South Florida, and helicopter feeds of "north Miami Beach" while I work on my sites.
I have googeld "c-panel + tutorials" and found this two useful sites in the "results" http://www.webmasterstop.com/64.html http://www.cpanel.net/docs/cpanel/ Does anybody know of a great book ?? I have mastered other software..I am not going to let this part now kick my ..... !! |

cPanel is really easy to master. Alot easier then other control panel softwares. I'm trying to figure out Plesk right now and it's a mouthful. HostGator has a section of tutorials in the ticket area on using cPanel. Here.
![]() Also Katrina was windy and a little rainy but it wasn't much. It's sunny and a little breezy here in West palm right now.

Sounds like a town's name in Russia, no? I don't even now what it would do... thank you, yes I found the help tutorials and I really like the flash step by step tutorials. It looks as if cpanel's features could be easy once u understand how to make what do the thing as you want it to be on your page. I can't read enough (glossaries!!) until I have my aha! moment and I move up the food-chain from overwhelmed newbie to ...russian? Last edited by tina; 08-26-2005 at 06:21 PM. |
