Default Upgrading From Reseller To Dedicated

I am a current reseller customer and have a question about upgrading my reseller account to a dedicated plan.

What is the process for transferring my customers domains and my domains from the virtual account to the dedicated server? Will I have to upload all of the sites to the dedicated server? Or will this transfer be handled by Host Gator after I upgrade?

Thanks,
Rev. Oz

Default Upgrading From Reseller To Dedicated

First is to take the dedicated server and make sure that everything you need is setup on it before you begin to put customer on it.

It took me about 2-3 days to make all work on my server with support helping me to make change to config files or put prgz on the server that I needed or was on the reseller accounts and not on the dedi.

A good way is to do a phpinfo on you reseller server and setup your dedi the same way. This way you will have less problem when you will upload all your customers to your server.

There is a link on hostgator website if you are a customer they will move all your account from your reseller server to the dedicated. Here's the link:

http://support.hostgator.com/addons.php

Scroll at the bottom at the page and choose the last one
(Transfer accounts - Free, We can move all of your sites over from any accounts you have with us to your dedicated server.).

I have use this method to change all my customer to the dedicated server and their was only one account that could not be transfer so I did it by hand.

Just make sure to check all sites before changing the DNS to your dedicated. Make sure everything seems to be working and then change the dns. Try to keep all accounts on the resellers for a week or two in case something bad happen so you can just change the DNS in case of a disasters of try to upload them back again from the reseller account to the server.

Don't be shy to ask questions before the move to make sure you don't forget anything. When I did my move I was quite stressed out but people help me from support and on this forum to make everything work for my dedi.

Serra was one and I thank him for the help on this issue for changing from a reseller to a dedicated server.

Best Regards,

Thanks.

Dedicated is far better than reseller, that is for sure.

Remember that when moving to the dedicated server that you need to have enough time with both accounts operating to get everything working. See the Dedicated Server forum for details on other people's problems.

Default Upgrading From Reseller To Dedicated

Hi everyone
i recently move from reseller to dedicated, because HG told me that one of my client site crashing the server, i need to upgrade my account.
For the sake of this client, i just have to do it.
I hope I'm not stuck with the bill:-) cause he decide to leave. will see

I have no idea running dedicated server, and did not plan to do this till this happen.
When i spoke to the gator staff ( they are very helpful), i have the impression just upgrade my account and pay HG for my dedicated account.
well it did not look like that, it seem there are setting that i need to do, huh i just not sure what to do.
my question are:
1. is there any tutorial to go over this task.
2. how long does it takes so everything else set correctly.

I'm concern and cannot afford messing up,end up all my clients from my reseller accout off line.
i would appreciate any one advice.

Tisa

There are many useful threads in the Dedicated Support forum: http://forums.hostgator.com/forumdisplay.php?f=28

and remember that the dedicated servers are managed, whenever you have problems you just contact HG support and they will fix it

Dear tisa

I have jump also in the dedicated server world about 2 months ago and didn't no really what to do to setup my server. Guys on forum told me to get the phpinfo from the reseller server and compare it with phpinfo on the server and make the server the same as the reseller accounts. That way the dedi will be setup the same for php and some other settings will be also set at the same time.

Because dedi are manage, there is less work to do because you can ask HG support question and usually correct the issue in less than an hour and even faster.

For the account that make reseller server down, I hope someone has taken action on the account to make sure that it will not plunge your server to a halt too. You think by just changing server that this client will not crash your dedi too? I don't think so, make sure to resolve what is crashing the server on that account.

The next thing after you have all progz and settings done is to put name servers on it so when you change the dns on your domain that it will point to your server.

You can use the page to transfer your account by HG at http://support.hostgator.com/addons.php Just scroll down the page and you will find the transfer account.

If you don't know what a link will do in WHM, try to read on cpanel.net website to see what it does before pressing it. It could maybe take your settings to a point that server could crash...

Best regards,

Hi Jean
thank you for your reply

that what i'm trying to figure out, is too confusing, i'm in the middle emailing back and forth, i wish they have paid service that can do it for me.

This I'm not very clear either, i gave this account enough space and bandwith on my reseller, HG told me the site crash the entire server (hundreds of sites)
do you know what it take for this to happen?
is it the traffic, or howmany people visiting at one time or what?
when i check the webalizer there are only 1200 people visting the site that day.
Hoping the upgrade will do good for me cause i have 3 reseller account different company is just too much. i want to put it in one account.

quietFinn, thanks for the link and info

tisa
