Default Upgrading one domain from my Reseller?

Hi guys

I've bought a Hostgator Reseller Plan and for a few months now i am very happy with what i got. I didn't make alot of money as that was'nt my first plan. I was more interested in learning how the bussines goes first.

BUT there is this one gaming website from my country that i host (and own) and since it's all about games we need alot of space for videos, download (mostly footage from different tournaments) i would like to move only that website from my Reseller plan to a Hosgator Hosting "Swamp" plan.

I would like to know if that would take a long time to transfer(since we have a tournament going on and people need to get informed about results, schedules etc) and if it's even possible to transfer it without loosing anything from my datas on that website.

Cheers

The problem I see with this is that you're moving a site to a Shared Server which has many more users/accounts on it which can cause you many more problems.

You mentioned space... Are you looking for storage space or bandwidth? Or both?

I kinda need both. Space to upload things and bandwidth for forums + downloads.

So you are saying that with a Reseller Plan the uptime is better then the one on a normal hosting plan from HG?

I've been with HG for almost 2 months now and i can't remember when we had a downtime. The service & support is incredibly good.

Instead of having to change from HG, why not use a separate service for just hosting the videos, etc. and link to them from the existing site.

This is at best misleading and at worst inaccurate. Reseller accounts are also "shared", with one server housing many accounts. Comparing the number of reseller accounts on a server to the number of shared, non-reseller accounts on another server is apples to oranges.

In both situations, the number itself is not nearly as important as functionality--how the server works.

In fact, performance for a site on a non-reseller shared server could exceed that for one on a reseller shared server (no middlepeople between HG tech and the accounts).

Besides possible performance, there are several other arguments for moving the busy site way from his/her reseller plan: greater space/bandwidth; safety net for clients' sites still on reseller plan (i.e., if busy site gets suspended, won't affect them); and greater portability, if busy site needs to go onto dedicated box.

Don't missunderstand me please. When i say i need more Space & Bandwidth it doesn't mean that i will need ALOT of it. I just want to make sure that we have a big capacity for both (space & Bandwidth) because we plan on going big this summer.

We have a few tournaments going on and we except high traffic (not as high as u think) so i just wanna make sure the users don't have trouble there.

Still no one answered my question. How long would it take to change a plan for that domain. From my HG Reseller to a normal HG hosting plan (swamp).

Cheers for the help guys.

Transferring one account from your reseller account to its own swamp plan should not be a huge deal. Contact HG and they should be able to move the account with out any problem. The only deal that could cause you any problems is forum data during the propagation of the DNS. I would make sure you shut off any forums prior to and during the change of the nameservers just so you dont lose anything.

Other than that, it should be painless.
