I'm currently on a shared plan and I'm looking at upgrading to the Aluminum Reseller plan and I have a few questions.
In the knowledgebase, it states that a main account must be kept when on the reseller account. On my current plan, I have two domains...my main domain I signed up with, and an addon. If I upgrade, I would like these switched. I would want my current addon to be the main (reseller) domain, and I could add my current main domain on afterwards. Is this possible? On the upgrade form, it seems it would just be an upgrade with everything set up the same as it is now. Would I be better off the just purchase the Aluminum reseller plan, change over my sites, then shut off the shared plan? |

Ok, I read, re-read, and searched all over HG, to figure out how this all will work, but I'm still uncertain about the issue of the primary domain change.
I used live chat to ask sales about purchasing the reseller account, moving my sites, then cancelling the shared account. I recieved a blunt, simple, "no...please fill out upgrade form". I was told that I could have the domain changed, after I upgraded. I found out tonight that HG charges $5 to change a domain. No big deal, but, once the domain is changed, all add on domains have to be manually redone as the domain change deletes them. So that puts me back to setting everything back up, just as if I had purchased a new account....except I'd have to pay HG for it. ![]() I really want to do this all myself. Partly for more experience, partly to clean up and organize my sites better. A weeks worth of time on both accounts would let me get comfortable with WHM and make the move smoother. I'd really like to have a new username also. SO why is having two accounts open with HG such a big deal. The only things that would be the same is my actual name, address, billing info, and the domains I have. Otherwise it would be a new account, just like any new HG customer. I could even temporarily shut down the #2 domain I want as number 1, just to keep any confusion from happening. Has anyone else done this? Is there an obvious reason why I can't?

That's how I did it when I moved from a shared account to reseller. And it really is good to do it that way if you want to learn things like moving accounts, and creating them in WHM etc.

Update: After opening a ticket with sales, I was told that I could do all of this. So I am now on an Aluminum Reseller package!
Already have part of my sites moved and propagated to the new server. Now the only detail to work out, is these forums. When I cancel my shared account, will I lose the "lakeRat" login here? Or will I just have to start using my new user name associated with my reseller acount? |

Nope, you keep using the same account... my info still says 'aluminum' package, but that hasn't been the case since May...

but he changed username and has two accounts at the moment (reseller and shared).
I suggest to contact GatorJay, the forums moderator: http://forums.hostgator.com/showthread.php?t=4516 Vtrain
