Default Updated Fantastico?

Just wondering when the Fantastico would be updated with new versions as I know a new version of phpBB came out a few days back and I'd rather use Fantastico to update the installtion since I used it to install it.. just wonder how long from when a program comes out with an update to when it shows up in Fantastico?

Updating fantastico at this time would not give the new version of phpBB. It is still installing version 2.0.10. Fantastico is not the way to get the latest and greatest scripts, rather it is a way to easily install the script with minimal configuration. In order to get the latest scripts, you will need to install them yourself, otherwise, you will be left waiting for netenberg to include it with Fantastico.

Hi Justin,

How do you install scripts such as phpbbs and configure them with shell access?

Thanks, Jeff

A lot of the fantastico scripts have an "easy upgrade" type thing where they tell you how to easily upgrade your existing script by uploading just the files that have been changed.

So it's possible you could install the script using fantastico, which would do all the heavy lifting -- create the databases, create the files and directories, set all the permissions, etc. -- and then upload just the upgrade files from the script's upgrade.

Best bet is to check the web site for the script you're interested in.

Shell access is not required to install most scripts. Most of the time, you just upload the tarball to the server, and extract it through the file manager in cpanel. You would need to look at the instructions included with the script. Usually, there will be some sort of install script such as http://www.yourdomain.com/script/install/install.php and you follow the installation instructions. If your script requires shell access, usually, if you view the contents of the script, you will see that all it does is change permissions of folders and delete files. All of which you can do without shell access. In a RARE occasion, you may have something that does actually require shell access. Email support@hostgator.com and they should work something out with you.
