Just to report, in case somebody experienced something similar, I went to cPanel and ran the "Repair DB" function for the database that had the corrupt indexes and now things seem to have returned to normal. Phew!

Have to agree that the message looks like a hacker. At first I remembered seeing something similar before, but when I could not find my server in the list posted, panic set in. Grabbed the phone as quick as I could to call HG Support. At the same time started checking some of the servers my clients are on. Sheer panic.
THIS MESSAGE NEEDS TO BE CHANGED!!!! Looks very unprofessional. Does not need a logo (especially one not mine!) but maybe a better description and notice to try the site again in 30-60 minutes. How about a little color too?
And Support could not tell me what change was being applied. So if something does not work after the change than what do I check?
I do not mindmaintenance being done, I appreciate it very much. But should be handled better and the message needs to be changed.

Wrangler is now down. (I.e., the list of servers down for maintenance in the original post of this thread is not exhaustive.)

So we had this happen. We ran the repair, which worked great. However, now we are seeing the "Under Maintenance - We are currently performing scheduled maintenance. We will be back soon!" screen.

A big request - will you please make your "downtime" page have a nocache attribute? People who visited are still seeing the cached version, and have to hard-reload to get the correct version of the site now. That's not good.

It may help get your sites back up quicker.

I've just read your post in the other thread. In your situation I would probably wait as well.

For those having database issues, also try checking the username. It seems like there was a change where overstating the username doesn't work anymore. Why it ever did? I'm not sure. Why I overstated usernames? Probably my OCD.

Example:

Code:
dbname = 'r0nald_mcdonalds'
username = 'r0nald_mcdonald'

# Doesn't work anymore
# username = 'r0nald_mcdonalds'

One of my client's just had a web application with some mysql tables that needed to be fixed. In well over a year he never had any issues like this and the last upgrade to their app was last August.
Now since we all know many servers were worked on last night without being listed I have no way of knowing if their server was one of them. It is different from my own server. So do I spend time going through their site to check all the apps and databases? Can't bill for it. Just no way to know if this was related to last night or something else. What about another hundred of my clients on Hostgator? Also as none of us know what was done to the servers, what do i check to be sure the problem does not surface again?

I can confirm this. Just discovered a site has been down for a couple of days with a database connection error. After contacting HG support they fixed the problem and confirmed that SQL changes mean database usernames have to be no more than (I think) 15 characters in total. Any new databases you set up will have lengths truncated at setup time but if you get database connection errors with existing sites I'd suggest checking the username length.
Passing this on in the hope that it may save you the amount of screwing around time we've been through this afternoon :-)
