Hi, i currently have one website hosted with a previous company, and i'm looking into transfering over to hostgator.com
I noticed you can host unlimited sites, what fees come along with that do you pay a monthly fee for each website you host? I guess i'm just a little confused what it means to be able to host unlimited sites. I only have one site and one domain at this time, but was considering getting a few more websites going each with its own domain. Would this cost me the 7.95 a month or is it 7.95 a month plus so much per extra site. If anyone could clear this up that would be great, because my previous web hosting is expiring anyday. Thanks for the help. |

However you will need to pay for all domain names that you wish to use from a domain registrar of your choice. e.g. HG, Namecheap, Godaddy, etc, etc.

Thanks for the reply, that seems like an amazing deal to host 10 sites for 7.95 a month plus the $10 a year or whatever you pay for each domain.

Its $7.95 per month if you pay on a 3 yearly yearly basis or $9.95 per month if you pay on a monthly basis. Even at $9.95 per month it is an amazing deal with what HG offers.

ONE BIG THING TO REMEMBER: There is a limit of 200 emails that can be sent per-hour...this accounts for emails sent from all of your domains hosted.

That is incorrect, the limit is 500 emails per hour

Thanks for the added info, I guess if you took an hour or two to mass email for each site, you'd be fine, just couldn't do all of your sites at the same time. Good to know though, can that be upgraded?

Not without going to a dedicated server. But you can throttle mass emails with PHPlist which is available in Fantastico for free.

Re: "unlimited sites", I believe there's a cPanel limit on the number of sites you can add (though the number is huge)??

It's very, very large-- I forget if it's all 9s (something like 99999999) or the max value of a database column (65,536 in an unsigned 16 bit column, for example).

Thanks, Matt.
I knew it was high enough that no one would ever have to worry about it, in a practical sense anyway. (But now my curiousity is piqued. I wonder what's the largest number of sites anyone has, on one account here, at HG. I think I'll make a post in the Offtopic forum and see.) |

My memory recall wasn't that sharp when I was a youngster. You expect me to remember that little bit of trivia, from months ago, at 53?
![]() Anyway, I see that Serra pegs it at ~24,000. Still too big to worry about.

Maybe it's 2^14 or 2^15, and the column is a signed integer?

I couldn't find anything about this in the cPanel docs, nor in a couple of searches through the cPanel forum. In the other thread, in Off-topic (though Mark, it seems on-topic to me), one of the Gators said he'd had to manually do something to get it (at least on the servers here) past 999.

Hi !
![]() I'm new around here, I get today a baby plan (paying for 1 year - and I like very much the speed I already tested with a site I uploaded ... now the "main" site is under construction). ![]() I would like to know something about unlimited domains ... I mean having several sites, but not using slashes (/). Let me explain. I think having 3 folders in public_html : Folder1 Folder2 Folder3 In every folder having a site (built on the computer, off-line) each of the folder containing so a file index.html (that means 3 files with the same name, but in 3 different folders). I wonder if unlimited domains means that I can choose myself 3 sitenames, let's say : www.site1.com www.site2.com www.site3.com or, to be more specific: www.cars123.com www.computers2000.com www.travels00.com pointing to those 3 files (index.html) so in this way I am not forced to have something like this: www.cars123.com www.cars123.com/computers www.cars123.com/travel because "cars, computers, travels" are too different things ... So, can I choose as I want ? (domains) ... And if I can where can I do this ? I already renamed the name of the domain (because I forgot to put www at the beginning ... Of course there is a message there to be carefull ...etc ...) ![]() Thanks a lot ! |

Yes, by using the addon domain feature, you are able to designate which sub-folder under the main public_html directory that you would like to be used as the public_html folder for the addon domain.

Just remember that you must properly register each addon domain. You can't just decide you want www.cars123.com, for example - someone else already owns that domain.
But you can create whatever subdomains you like. So, if your own domain is example.com, you can use car123.example.com, computers.example.com, and so on. Those don't have to be registered - you can just create them from your cPanel. |

Domain registrations are never free. You must pay for each one. Hosting them on your HG account, on the other hand, is free.

Someone told me that the AddOns are free. It's a person encountered on other forum (specialized in webdesign), I don't know if that person is very well informed.
Is this true ? AddOns are free ? ... Must I enter (again) on a Chat with a person working there ? - I have had a problem when sending all those details, datas, scans etc , when I created the first (main, principal) domain. And then I talked on the Chat room ... Thanks !!!

You can host as many addon domains as you want, for free. But you have to register each addon with a domain registrar somewhere (like Enom, which is HG's affiliated registrar), and like I said, domain registration is not free. You have to buy the domain - adding it to your HG account is free.
Domain registration and domain hosting are two completely independent things. |

HOWEVER, I think your main difficulty may be some confusion about addon domains and addon hosting services. Two entirely different things. You can host as many ADDON DOMAINS as you wish for free on HG's hosting service. But the domain registrations arent free, of course, and neither are some HG SERVICE ADDONS. |
