Question Unlimited Domains - Shared Accounts

Your shared hosting package details pages lists "unlimited" in the "Domains Allowed" row for all accounts. However, when I click "?" for further information, it says "Both the queen croc and king croc plans allow for multiple websites to run out of a single account. If you are looking for unlimited domains allowed please check out our Reseller plans."

I'm interested in the Baby plan at present (to complement/backup another hosting provider), and need multiple domain support; I like the flexibility of unlimited domains and subdomains, but the comparison table and the detailed explanation leave me without an understanding of what I really get with the various plans. Since there's a discrepancy in the information provided, I question also the "Unlimited" for subdomains and MySQL databases.

Can you help me?

Hi,

there's a limited time offer for unlimited domains on every shared hosting package. So, currently you will also get unlimited domains with the Baby plan for as long as you are a HostGator customer.

If you have any further questions please let us know.

Stef.

Default Re: Unlimited Domains - Shared Accounts - DNS question

OK, so I bit and have acquired a Baby account. Now I go to configure an additional domain "Add-on" as they're called here. I discover that the verbage indicates that I must use Hostgator's DNS servers to set up an add-on domain. Is this true, and if so, why (to satisfy my curiosity.)

I prefer to separate my DNS services from my hosting services. If Portland should drop into the sea, God forbid, I need to be able to quickly change the DNS A record to point to my backup site. It's *much* quicker to change the RR than to change the TLD servers to use a different DNS servers elsewhere (minutes vs hours or, in some cases, days.)

Is there a way to set up add-on domains using an independent DNS provider?

Thanks.
