Hello,
When I try to log into my FTP server to upload files, I get an "Unknown Socket Error" each time. I am puzzled as to why this is occuring when it worked fine just a few weeks ago. Additionally, I am able to log into other FTP sites without problem, it's only when I try to log into my HostGator FTP that I receive this error. Any ideas? This looks like a serious issue, I hope you have submitted a ticket to HG.

Alright, I'll send in a ticket this evening.
(And I sent my info for the undefined part--I was curious about that, thanks.) |

Another thing to note is that I am able to bring up the welcome screen, it is when it tries to list the contents of the main directory, that this problem occurs.

Do you have a massive number of files in your main directory, such as over 1,000?
Do you have a router between yourself and your connection? Is it a linksys? Thanks, Ben |

#1 As for files, it's not more than a dozen files or so...
#2 I am running through a D-Link router, which I believe to be the problem after all. What mystifies me is that I can log into other FTP servers just fine, only the HG one gives me an error. I have tried opening up the FTP ports, opening everything up to that one IP, as well as put the computer on a DMZ--all of which to no avail. I have also tried using a variety of FTP clients and running in both PASV [passive] mode and nonpassive mode. Lastly, I have tried using multiple computers on this connection and none have been able to connect. It has been suggested to me that it may be my ISP blocking that particular IP in an attempt to "stop piracy" or something...I have never heard of that before, but I suppose that could be it. I have been able to log into it from other connections, just not this one. |
