Division--completely serious question: where else are you advertising these deals?

- a HG staff member, who surely wouldn't be purchasing hosting from you
- or like the vast majority of forum readers, have hosting from HG already.

So quite pointless advertising here don't you feel?

Perhaps you are better advertising elsewhere.

Well on the forums I moderate, I would classify this as spam right away. The description for this thread is:

Quote:
Use this forum to request or offer special services from your fellow users. Things such as graphic design, custom scripting, etc.
And this is definatly advertising. My personal opinion... Lock it.

This is what I'm getting at. I don't necessarily think this is spam that should be locked, but I'm just curious if you're *only* advertising these specials on Hostgator forums or if you are putting them somewhere else?

If you really believe in your deals you may want to concentrate on advertising them in places where people are likely to look for new hosting. I don't think you're going to get a lot of sales from a private Hostgator customer forum.

Just my personal opinion.

£10 is the same as $20 and it says UK ONLY!

It's Microsoft Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3.

Thanks

I would be expecting more like 100 pounds.... seems very fishy to me.

We sell it here for around AUD $200 but that's in OEM form and thereby strictly only with a system, not on its own. Retail packaged product is much dearer again.

Just checked out your "siter" web site

I see you are a UK business and you charge VAT yet I see no where on your web site that lists the companies registered number or VAT number.

I also read the returns policy and the terms and conditions on your "sister" site and they made me laugh as you go on about statutory rights and distance selling regulations yet statements made within your returns policy and terms and conditions put your in clear breach of distance selling regulations and the statutory rights of a consumer.

Hi Keith,

That's where your wrong, we don't charge VAT on any of our products and services because we are not VAT registerested and therefore we offer our products and services at low prices.

With regards to the Returns Policy and the Terms and Conditions in what way is it in clear breach of the distance selling regulations rule and statutory rights of a consumer.

Thanks

Well now you see, with what you just said, leads me to believe you are operating illegally.

First, a quote from your own terms and conditions:

Quote:
3.1 All prices for the Goods are in pounds Sterling and subject to Value Added Tax (“VAT”) at the relevant rate ruling on the date of despatch and do not include the cost of carriage, packaging or other charges which becomes payable under any contract with Cybernet Online. Prior to the conclusion of the contract Cybernet Online will inform the customer the total amount to be debited.
Now you just told me you are not VAT registered yet your terms and conditions say you charge VAT.

Now seeing as you are a UK company and selling products in the UK you legally have to be VAT registered.

I also checked with companies house and you are not even a registered company.

Taking everything into account I think your "sister" web site is being operated illegally which brings into doubt the authenticity of the software you sell as well.

I think the inland revenue would be very interested in your "sister" web site and its operations.

Hi,

I will pass this message on to the team which run the website and we will take it from there. It looks like the Terms and Conditions which are displayed on the website have not been updated with the new terms and conditions which are due to be launched on 1st August 2008. All registered members of the site have been informed about the change on 1st June 2008.

Thanks

I guess you have a "hot Line" to the people who manage your "sister" site then as the page has already been changed within a matter of minutes.

By the way I took a copy of that page

It makes no odds anyway because as I have said you are operating illegally as you have to be VAT registered in order to sell goods in the UK.

The people who manage the website are in the same building as we are operating in. You don't have to be VAT registered to sell goods online in the UK and as we sell online and not in retail stores you don't need to have VAT.

Dear oh dear!

Now you are well and truly talking out of your rear end.

Whether you trade on line or in a retail store makes no difference you legally have to be VAT registered.
