hi,
I've heard a lot about your company being very good and we are thinking of becoming a reseller. However, we are based in the UK and all our clients are also UK based. I understand Hostgator is located in the US, would this make a huge difference when users tries to search (lets say on Google) for a site by country location? for example, if you search for hostgator on google (by the web) it appears but if you search by 'pages from uk' it appears but not the actual site and only external links from other sites. This is important to us since we need to convince our clients that it will appear (not neccessary top rank) so they can rest assure that geographical location of hosted site isn't a problem. Otherwise, is there ways to make them appear when search by country, say, we obtain a .co.uk domain name from 123 Reg UK and point this to your host (reseller account) will this resolve the issue? Thank you, S |

As far as I know google doesn't know, or care, where the server is located, i.e. if the site has .co.uk domain it's a UK site.
Few of my sites are .fi (Finland), and in google they apper as finnish sites

Yep those type of extensions are what get you ranked in those searches, so its not dependent on where your hosting but rather your domain name.

One of the people here is in New Zealand and runs all his sites off a HG box and doesn't seem to have Google problems using co.nz domains. I have a co.uk domain and I don't believe it will be a problem for my site either. |

S,
I'm from the UK and have a reseller account with HG. You will have no problems with Google. Searching on google.co.uk (my default) is no different to searching on google.com What works on one generally works on both. If you're worried, buy a .com domain name and the .co.uk domain and park the .co.uk Won't make a difference to your rankings but if you're based in the UK then you should probably have both anyway. I haven't even opened my site yet but I'm getting a lot of hits off the parked .co.uk already (probably from me )Cheers, Skeg |

Yup pretty much any search engine will pickup the site over time regardless of location and name. You may also consider that if you advertise on Google it's country / region specific so if you want to be picky about where you appear in ads, you can also pick and choose those to your liking.
