Default Uhm, wtf happen to webmail?

There seems to be a new system in place for webmail which I can't get to behind the firewall at work. I had no problem with the old system whatsoever.(I had to set up that cpanel proxy to run a subdomain for webmail and that worked fine - but now I go to the subdomain, try to log in, and it tries to connect with a port number at the end - which obviously isn't going to work.

I can't be the only one having this problem today... Any idea how to fix it? (not that it was broke to begin with... squirrelmail wasn't fancy but at least it got the job done)

If your are the using cpanel proxy.. you will need to contact them as there seems to be problems with cpanel11 and cpproxy

same problem. guess I'll be emailing everyone and their grandparents now...

(hate to sound so crass but this is basically an email outage for me and anyone else behind a firewall... wouldn't be a problem if i had some warning there might be changes coming).

It's related to the Cpanel 11 upgrade. All of our admins are aware of the issue and are working very hard to get the issue resolved.

I put in a trouble ticket and the response was to use http://mydomain.com/webmail instead. No mention of a fix or anything, as if the webmail will no longer be available?

FYI...apparently, this is now resolved. Would be a bigger fan of HG is outages (and subsequent restorations) were proactively posted in this forum.

Apparently your tech support guys aren't aware of it. They keep responding to my support ticket with things like... "I was able to open http://webmail.pitrowproductions.net/ successfully, however I went ahead and reinstalled the proxy for webmail from scratch. Please try now."

Which of course doesn't work because it still redirects to the 2095 port which is blocked where I'm at. So much for trying to explain that to them though. Guess I'll just keep the ticket closed and keep trying it until it works instead of hoping that someone from support will actually understand the issue and notify me when it's actually done.

I dont think its supports problem, you are using 3rd party scripts to access it, that HG didnt make

mydomain.com/webmail looks like it won't work since after you sign in it still bumps over to the port number...

so i suppose the cpanelproxy people and cpanel creators are different folks? Or is it jsut severely bad in house communication going on with them?

Sucks that you HG guys have to be stuck in the middle. Is there any way we can get updates before things like cpanel get updated? A quick newsletter to let us know something might be changed would be pretty cool me thinks, just so it's not a nasty surprise if some bug like this creeps up.

That has been my only complaint with HG since I've moved here. A serious lack of communication in general, and especially when they are changing things that could have serious repercussions. Even though communication has been getting better lately I still think they need to take a more pro-active approach to keeping customers informed of what's going on instead of us finding out after-the-fact when something breaks.

Very disappointed in how this was handled.

Being on the east coast of US, and having all our email fail at 4:30 pm on FRIDAY ruined any chance of enjoying a weekend away from work.

Regardless of where the fault lies, upgrades should be performed at off-peak times and not during the business day. (In the US that would be 9am eastern to 5pm pacific.)

I'll repeat it because you obviously didn't read the whole post.

In the US Buiness is conducted between the hours of:

9am eastern
to
5pm pacific

for CMT that would be:

8am to 7pm

Business

I don't imagine it was something they planned on doing... I know they've done some things that may be construed as backward, but nobody updates to CP11 in the middle of the day...

I always recommend people install their own webmail clients for these reasons exactly. It's so much easier and really no downsides...only upsides.

I would like to suggest checking into Google Apps Email service as it is GREAT and has all the features of gmail but for your own domain.. all i had to do is submit a ticket requesting the DNS settings to be changed on my domain to point to the alt email server and it went flawless...

There is a fix for cPanelProxy posted in the cPanel forums: http://forums.cpanel.net/showthread.php?t=66107&page=3
(see post #33)

EDIT:
you can't see that post if you are not registered in cPanel forums, so I post the fixed file here.

I'd like to apologize to anyone who believes they've had a lack of communication on this or any other issues. Keep in mind we're growing at an unparalleled rate and as such we have had higher than normal ticket volumes and are actively training and hiring new employees on a regular basis. Communication and service is getting better and moving in the right direction we're just going through some growing pains, thanks for your patience with us and let myself or Brent know personally if you have a particular ticket you'd like us to review. Keep in mind while we try our best to monitor these forums our first priority is the servers and the support queue, that's why it's called a Peer Support Forum. Thanks guys!
