Default what type of hosting to get?

Hi. I plan on hosting a forum on host gator, and probably multiple in the future. What would be the best plan to start. I know that baby and swamp have the 25 connection limit. Is the same true for the aluminum reseller package or could i host all my forums on a reseller package without any worries of too many connections. Thanks.

It's 25 simultaneous mysql connections. You could have 3-400 people (or more) actively browsing your site and clicking on topics before hitting that limit.

Yeah. The semi-dedicated packages limits are much higher.

Don't forget, that'd need to be 3-400 people (possibly a lot more if it's well coded) on the site at the same time, actively clicking links to get to that limit.

hm..so say the connection limit was a problem, i'd be better off hosting them on something like the swamp plan and just putting my different forums on different plans?

No, not really. The connection limit goes by mysql user, not account. So on a baby, you could have 10 forums all with different mysql users and you'd have a set of 10 x 25 connections.

Keep in mind that if you had 10 forums on a baby that were near the limit, you'd be in trouble for CPU anyway.

There is NO advantage to the reseller plans, except you get a separate control panel. (There are some advantages of having a separate control panel, none of which have to do with connections.)

Nice to know, but not that useful. If you get 2 forums that are bumping against the limit, your mySQL usage will be very high. I suspect that will flag you and get your account suspended. So... not all that useful.
