The "billing" links go to https://secure.hostgator.com/billing/ - the "modern bill" system, but the support articles state that this is obsolete and the other system - gblclient should be used.
This is one area where choice is not good - if the older system is obsolete, ti should be removed, but if the new one isn't ready for prime time, it should be clearly labeled as "beta" and not promoted to the users.

Well all new customers are using the new billing system while the older customers still have to use the old system until we are transferred to the new system.

Hello,
Both billing systems are production quality software. All new users are now set up in gatorbill, and we are currently in a transition phase in which we are going to be moving people from the old system to the new system.

Yeah, right. Pull the other one. When I login to the billing system (modernbill), it tells me that I have only one domain, whereas I have two registered through HG. And the one that's listed indicates that it expired a year ago (on the very day it was created, no less!), whereas it most certainly has not.
Sorry, but it has all the earmarks of something that was cobbled together by amateurs. |

Sorry, I don't buy that both are "production quality". For instance, I can't even find a place to renew a hosting package or change it in the old "modern" system. And, as may have been posted to the company blog, the newsletters usually mention some coupon code, but darned if I can find any place to enter it.
So, you're wondering - why not use the other system? Simple - it won't accept the login credentials that work for "modern billing". It might not be in beta - but if users can't log in, it hardly qualifies for alpha.

I think there is some confusion. The 2 billing systems are separate and query different databases. New sign ups are using the new billing system at https://gbclient.hostgator.com, but accounts that were created in the old system have not been migrated to the new system. This is why you can't login Corona79. We are currently working to get everything migrated over to the new billing system but this takes time due to the number of accounts in modernbill. We want to make sure the transition goes smoothly and accounts do not get lost. Modernbill has worked for us for a while but it is defiantly showing its age, has problems, and is not designed to work with the number of accounts that we currently have. We do not currently have an eta on when accounts in mobernbill will be migrated but it should be in the very near future.

I can't even log in.
I tried all my passwords, didn't work. Tried the password recovery feature of modern bill and the password don't even work. The gbclient keeps claiming my email isn't in the system, so no luck with that. How am I supposed to log in to open a ticket or pay my bill if the passwords aren't working? |

I sent you a pm Xtreme2damax. Are you using the email address that you used when you signed up for your account?

Since we are the subject of the "billing system".
I hope once you switch to the new system, that one little "security" problem I have with the old system is FIXED! On the current system (I guess old one), if there is billing problem, like can't charge your CREDIT CARD, it sends out an email, reminding you to log in, and it gives you the LOGIN name I guess incase you forgot. But if you are LATE, close to the 10 day mark, it sends out another EMAIL, and that SECOND email, contains not only your LOGIN name, but also your PASSWORD in full PLAIN ASCII for anyone to capture, write down if they see you viewing your email, etc. Very bad. -- So now I make sure I am NEVER late with an payment. Hope this problem is fixed on the new system, can't wait to try it out! |

Again, although I can see a "package" and a "domain", there is no way to renew either.

Unfortunately, there is not a way for you to create your own invoices. There is an invoice waiting to be paid to renew your domain. Your hosting will invoice once your renewal date has arrived.
Domains are invoiced a month ahead of expiration. Send an email to sales at hostgator.com once that has been paid so we can renew your domain for you.

Huh? There are not only different kinds of hosting packages, there are 1, 2, and 3 year terms - and there are supposedly coupon codes. Where can I make my choice about what I want to do?

You made your choice when you signed up for an account. If you want to alter this, email sales and they will make the changes for you.

If this is "no contracts", I would hate to see what "contracts" would be like.
HostGator needs to fix the entire billing process so the user is in control. No need to reply: end-of-thread for me |

Good morning,
As Carl explained these are two different billing systems. One is ModernBill, the other is a custom billing system we have built in house. We are moving away from ModernBill for obvious reasons, some pointed out in this thread. All new customers are being setup into GatorBill (new billing software). We working on importing all existing clients into GatorBill from modernbill however, as I am sure you all can understand, that process has to be handled very delicately. If you have any specific questions about either billing system, feel free to PM me. I will be glad to personally answer each and every one of your questions. Thanks,
